AB 332, The Animal Shelter Data Collection Act, Passes Senate Health Committee with a Unanimous Vote!

June 14, 2023, Sacramento, CA – Today, Assembly Bill 332, authored by Assemblymember Alex Lee (D-San Jose) and sponsored by Social Compassion in Legislation, passed the the Senate Health Committee with a unanimous vote. An excellent outcome - and one in which highlights why our work in Sacramento is working and why YOUR support is so important!

Last week we sent out an email giving you the inside scoop on AB 332 and asking you to make calls in support of the bill. If you missed it, click the link to read. It was a 100% "insider baseball" story about why the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) stopped collecting and reporting animal shelter data in 2017, and take down 21 years worth of past data. And even though state agencies cannot take an official position on a bill, from our conversation with the Committee staff, there was strong indications that CDPH did not want AB 332 to pass.

Thankfully with the work of the author, Assemblymember Lee, his staff, our lobby team in Sacramento, and all of YOUR support, the Committee saw past the empty arguments against collecting the data required under the bill and passed it on consent. We'd like to share the Senate Health Committee's analysis to show you the results of our advocacy which includes your voices.
