Miami Dade Fire Rescue Considers Possible Site for New Fire Station
PALMETTO BAY, FL, JULY 07, 2016 -  Palmetto Bay officials met with the Miami-Dade County Fire Rescue (MDCFR) Chief Financial Officer Scott Mendelsberg and Planning Manager Carlos Heredia to discuss a new fire station that may be coming to the southeast area of Village of Palmetto Bay. According to information provided by the fire department, the new station will decrease response times for the area. The new station site under consideration is near the area of Old Cutler Road & SW 184th Street.
They also discussed the approved fire station on Old Cutler Road and SW 142 street and are happy to announce that the temporary trailer housing that fire station will be on the site by no later than late next week... The project also involves the extension of a water line for the new fire station on SW 142nd Terrace.  MDCFR as per a settlement agreement planned to bring the water extension only to the single household that litigated against the county in opposition of the station.  The fire department however has decided on their own to pay for the engineering plans for the water line for all the neighbors along the street.  They further said they will build at cost the line at the same time they build the waterline for the fire station provided that the residents reimburse the fire department. Mayor Flinn thanked the fire department for considering everyone equally, "As Mayor, I want to officially thank MDCFR for thinking of the entire neighborhood and not just the homeowner who sued the department and pushed for water to be brought to his property only," stated Mayor Flinn.  The water extension will drastically reduce the homeowners' cost to bring water into their properties. Mendelsberg said, "This is a great opportunity for the entire neighborhood of SW 142 Terrace to get water inexpensively."
Residents living on SW 142 Terrace who are interested in bringing the water extension into their neighborhood are asked to contact the Village Manager via email or by phone 305-259-1234 so that the Village may put them directly in contact with Miami Dade County Fire Rescue.
