ACR 86 PASSES COMMITTEE UNANIMOUSLY!
My first trip back to the Capitol since Covid...and it was fun! I would like to thank Assemblymember Ash Kalra and his staff for a job well done on ACR 86. Also a big thank you to Kenn Altine, CEO, SPCA Sacramento, for testifying, Nickolaus Sackett for carrying the load on AB 829, and Jennifer McDonald for making the trip with me.
ACR 86, the Pet Crisis Response Act, authored by Assemblymember Ash Kalra and coauthored by a bipartisan group of twelve legislators, passed the Assembly Committee on Business and Professions with a unanimous vote of 18-0. The resolution details the underlying issues that have contributed to too many dogs, cats, rabbits and other species being born in or brought into California without enough Californians willing to give them forever homes and urges action on the pet overpopulation crisis in California.
ACR 86 is sponsored by Social Compassion in Legislation and supported by veterinarians, shelter staff and volunteers, rescue organizations, and philanthropists and celebrities including Priscilla Presley, Katherine Heigl, Maggie Q, Dr. Gary Michelson, and Louise Linton.
