The official Groundbreaking of our 107th Habitat home took place last Saturday morning, September 10. Over 40 people, including Shonbray's large extended family, gathered at 601 Rose Street in Denton to witness the ceremony that marked the beginning of a brighter future for the Johnson family.
Shonbray Johnson and her six children (and 1 grandbaby!) are such a sweet family, and we are honored to partner alongside them as they build their future.
Special thanks to our sponsors for their support of this home: Citizens Bank, City of Denton, Greystar, In Loving Memory of Paul Voertman, Ruth's Room, State of Texas, Texas Realtors, and Wells Fargo.
With the foundation already laid, construction officially begins with "Walls Up" this Saturday September 17! We are grateful for such amazing community support that enables us to keep building homes and fulfilling our vision of a world where everyone has a decent place to live.

Jim Hemsell with A Closer Look Inspection Services has been an in-kind partner on our Habitat homes for several years. Jim has been performing home inspections since 1982 and served on the Texas Real Estate Commission Inspectors Committee for 5 years beginning in 1989. He also has offered his expertise in helping us build ENERGY STAR homes. Our 107th home at 601 Rose Street will be Habitat Denton's first ENERGY STAR rated home, a label symbolizing trust, quality, and responsible stewardship of the environment that we all live in.

Last but not least in our ReStore Staff Spotlight series is the ReStore Manager, Kevin Sample! In August, Kevin celebrated 3 years of working at the ReStore. He started as a Warehouse Associate testing appliances, then was quickly promoted to Floor Supervisor, where he worked hard to clean and reorganize the store. His hard work has not gone unnoticed, and he was promoted to Manager in July 2021.
Kevin is a former U.S. Navy second-class petty officer, having served in all three Gulf Wars. Some time after serving, he was homeless for nine months. The Recovery Resource Council helped him get his own apartment and set up a budget. Four months later, after a lot of hard work and perseverance to get back on his feet, Kevin got a job at the ReStore.
Now, Kevin has a personal connection to Habitat's mission and often advocates in the community for veterans and homelessness. We are blessed and proud to have Kevin as the ReStore Manager; he has worked hard to get where he is today and does not take that for granted. Come say "hi" to Kevin at the ReStore today!
The ReStore has new store hours: 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM on Tuesday - Saturday at 1805 Cornell Lane, Denton, TX 76201.

We are raising funds to develop 8 acres of vacant land in Southeast Denton and establish a new "Habitat Village" housing development on the property. As many as 35 new affordable homes will be built alongside local families in need via this development. This project involves developing the infrastructure of this neighborhood, including the streets, sidewalks, utilities, proper drainage requirements, and everything else needed to support a neighborhood of 35 homes.
