Some brief notes:
Course Opening - The course is projected to be open to the public on October 1, 2021. Over the next year, the city will develop plans for management and operations for golf, tennis, aquatics, and the clubhouse at BCC, which is located on Congress Ave. just north of Clint Moore Rd., across from Costco. The course will remain private before that date, and specifics will be finalized for current club members' and Boca Golf and Tennis residents' access after then. The City Council will vote on accepting this generous donation at next Wednesday's council meeting. Of course, I intend to vote yes.
Costs - Great news for taxpayers. The city is assuming no debt for the course and it is a donation, thanks to the generosity of MSD and Northview. User fees at the facilities are expected to cover the costs of operations. The intention is to keep greens fees and other costs affordable and accessible for residents and visitors.
Boca Teeca / Ocean Breeze - Many of you know that the Greater Boca Raton Beach & Parks District, a separate elected body, has been working on its plans to reconstruct the former Ocean Breeze golf course at Boca Teeca. This afternoon, I spoke with all members of the District to let them know we support a strong partnership as the District determines how it will proceed with the Ocean Breeze land. It is very possible that the District will choose not to move forward with building another golf course. We look forward to working with the BPD on its plans, as part of our shared mission to provide outstanding recreation to our residents in our 47 parks and other facilities. As always, I look forward to residents' input on what recreation they want to see, as well as the results of the recreational needs survey we undertook with the BPD.
Current Golf Course - Our current municipal golf course on Glades Road is under contract for sale but still operating. It will likely stay open until Boca Country Club opens to the public, providing continuous access to public golf. That's good news for golfers in our community.
