DIAPER DRIVE AT THE GRIZZLY GAME
Helping babies by participating in a diaper drive can be part of the fun for attendees of the December 4th Missouri State University-West Plains Grizzly basketball game to be played at the West Plains Civic Center beginning at 7 p.m.
A "Change for a Change" donation drive will be held at half time, and the university is offering a free ticket for each package of disposable baby diapers brought to the game. Donations of cash and diapers will be donated to the Focus on Babies Diaper Resource Center - West Plains. Season tickets holders can earn a ticket for a friend or are invited simply to bring diapers to help a worthwhile local cause.
Diaper Resource Center is a diaper bank which functions as a store house for diapers like food banks do for food. Diaper banks rely on members of the community, churches and other organizations to hold diaper drives and diaper showers, and for individuals and businesses to provide monetary and in-kind donations to sustain their supply.
Organizers of Diaper Resource Center say their stated mission is, "To furnish local distributing agencies with diapers for at-risk, early childhood youth to enhance the families' resources and improve their well-being." Current distributing agencies include First Christian Church's Tender Mercies Diaper Ministry, Martha Vance Samaritan Outreach Center and Christos House Domestic Violence Shelter. Individuals with needs should contact those agencies directly with inquiries.
Donations of disposable diapers can also be dropped off at Ozark Action Inc., 710 E. Main St., West Plains, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Mondays through Thursdays, all year long. Ozark Action Inc. provides the warehouse space for diapers. Fiscal management, allowing for financial contributions to be tax-deductible, is provided by Community Interagency Council.
