How Critical Questions Can Decrease Toxic Stress, Increase Resilience and Help You Lean Into Your Better Self
Chris Moore, School Psychologist, Salem-Keizer Public Schools

One year into our world being turned upside down, many of us continue to struggle with worry, frustration, fear and grief. At the same time we're seeing glimmers of hope that a return to some of our most life-affirming connections and rituals may not be too far away. But how do we begin to recover from months of exhaustion and the residual traumas of this global pandemic? And how might we build on the best of what we already know about being good stewards of our time, energy, and resources to chart a path that will help us lean into our better selves moving forward.

The Simple Guide to Healthy Eating
Amy Kearns, Wellness Advisor, Moda Health

Cassy Bowen, Wellness Advisor, Moda Health

Struggling to eat better? You’re not alone. Dietary advice is confusing! Consume foods with certified fairy dust. Only eat grass-fed kale. If you eat after 8pm, you’ll turn into a pumpkin. Eating healthier is easier than you may think (and it doesn’t involve giving up the foods you love). This presentation discusses simple tools for creating a healthy eating plan and improving our relationship with food and overall well-being.

Laughaceuticals: Play as Collective Care
Tamara Carroll, ETP Program Director, Kaiser Permanente Educational Theater Program in Collaboration with Oregon Children’s Theater

Nick Condon, Kaiser Permanente Educational Theater Program in Collaboration with Oregon Children’s Theater

Research has shown us that there’s truth to the adage “laughter is the best medicine.” Play can reduce stress, boost creativity and innovation, increase energy, reduce burn-out, support relationship-building, and enhance a feeling of connectedness. Beyond that, play serves a critical function in youth brain development, teaching social-emotional skills, such as verbal and non-verbal communication, boundaries, cooperation, and self-efficacy. Whether you’re currently meeting online, in-person, or operating in hybrid, this workshop offers concrete ideas for infusing school environments with the healing benefits of play. Laughter may have been hard to come by this past year, but while our school communities grapple with stress, isolation, and the challenges of re-inventing education many times over, play may be just what the doctor ordered.
