an and Legionnaire who learned of Brett's U.S. Army Vietnam War era service, and extended an invitation to join McLean Post 270 in McLean, Virginia. He was encouraged to attend the next scheduled meeting, where he was warmly welcomed, initiated into membership, and told that young veterans of his age will be the future of the American Legion. For Brett, the camaraderie, patriotism and spirit of service resonated strongly, and within two years, he was serving as post commander.
Through the encouragement of mentors, Brett sought opportunities of increased responsibility. In the ensuing years, he excelled in leadership roles at the district, department and national levels - most recently as chairman of the National Legislative Commission. With the encouragement of fellow Legionnaires and family, he was nominated to be a candidate for National Commander.
As an active candidate for National Commander for the 2018-2019 Legion year, Brett, if elected, will have the honor of serving as the
American Legion's 100th national commander. He looks forward to the opportunity of leading the largest wartime veterans service organization in the country, comprised of more than 2 million members, with 13,000+ posts located throughout the world. Brett has chosen "Celebrating Our Legacy" as his theme as the Legion celebrates its Centennial, and we ask for your support as he campaigns throughout the country.
