What's Happening at Brevard Family Partnership
Welcome from the CEO

In recognition of National Social Work Month I would like to personally thank our case management organizations, Children's Home Society and Devereux Florida, as well as all of our partner agency staff and leadership for their dedication and commitment to improving the quality of life of Brevard's vulnerable children and families. Children's Home Society and Devereux Florida were the founding partners in the establishment of Community Based Care of Brevard - now Brevard Family Partnership - and have played a central role in the care and protection of our children for more than eight years.

Celebrating National Social Worker Month

March is National Social Worker Month! While we take time during this special month to recognize and appreciate the efforts of our social workers, we truly are grateful EVERY day for those who work tirelessly on behalf of Brevard's children and families.
Social work is a profession for those with a strong desire to help improve people's lives. The dedication and commitment required of social workers is evidence of a selfless heart with a genuine desire to improve the lives of those in need.
We are thankful for the significant contribution made by social workers who strive each day by their work to change the conditions of the world and improve the lives of "the least among us." We celebrate their profession, continued commitment, and enthusiasm to protecting children, strengthening families, and changing many lives.
On behalf of those whose lives you changed, thank you!
Florida Youth Leadership Academy welcomes two youth leaders

The Department of Children and Families recently welcomed 21 members as the sixth class of the Florida Youth Leadership Academy. Among the new members is Trenton Miller, a 17 year old young man from Brevard's own Crosswinds Independent Living Youth program.

Trenton was selected out of 64 youth from across the state who were nominated for the program. The kickoff event was held in February, culminating with the election of officers for the Leadership Class. Trenton was selected by his peers to be Vice President. Without hesitation, Trenton eagerly assumed this role. As leader of his Jr. ROTC class at Rockledge High School, he is confident he has the skills and capability to be a successful leader. In addition to attending high school, Trenton is also taking 2 classes at Brevard Community College, works at two jobs, is a mentor in the Big Brothers program, and completes numerous community service hours.

News From the Field - DCM Spotlight

In this month's news from the field, the spotlight is on Children's Home Society Dependency Care Manager, Nicole Grant.  Nicole is originally from Brooklyn, New York and she is one of six children in her family.  Prior to moving to Florida, Nicole worked at a residential treatment facility on the dual diagnosis wing.  She began her career as a child protection professional with CHS in 2010.

Nicole states she has always wanted to work with children and has a desire to help others.  When asked what enables her to be successful at her job, Nicole stated having a knowledgeable and supportive supervisor is very important as is teamwork.  Nicole's supervisor states that she is very proactive, and works well with minimal oversight.  She further reported that she has received compliments from Guardian Ad Litems and Quality Assurance staff from both CHS and BFP regarding Nicole's work.

Three things you will always find in Nicole's car are change for tolls, napkins in case she has to eat on the run, and her ice skates.  Perhaps she hasn't realized it doesn't snow as often here yet.

Keep up the great work Nicole!
