Sanctimonious influencer apologizes after being called out by bakery for bad review
I find very few things more annoying that so-called social media influencers who start threatening hard-working entrepreneurs with bad - and potentially damaging - online reviews unless they get free stuff. Tony Soprano would be proud of this modern-day shakedown. Less messy than burning down a restaurant, eh?
Article excerpt: "An influencer is apologizing after a feud between her and an Arizona bakery went viral online last week.
On Oct. 7, food influencer Aurora Griffo, known online for her food reviews under the TikTok account Glamorama, took to the platform to share her review of a Scottsdale, Ariz., bakery called JL Patisserie.
Griffo shared her mixed opinions on the bakery, saying that she didn't 'mind spending $10 on a pastry if they are really good, but you cannot use fake a** ingredients,' pointing out the color of the bakery's pistachio filling in her original post, as well as some of the bakery's other offerings, including the coffee, some of the pastries' prices and the crust of the bakery's quiche.
'All of that being said, I think if you stay away from the expensive ingredients,' she concluded the review, 'you can definitely enjoy a delicious, rich pastry here.'
Griffo's initial review didn't garner much initial interaction; however, things began to spiral when the bakery responded."
Why do these sanctimonious bully influencers feel the need to damage a heard-earned reputation just because they couldn't get a free slice of apple pie? It's pathetic. Besides, isn't getting paid to do a good review a bit on the unethical side? (Not that these morons would know an ethic if it came up to them on the street and slapped them in the face!)
I'm so glad this bakery fought back! Good for them!

More and more offices are telling employees to go shoeless while at work
"Take off your shoes!" is not just for grandma's house anymore. More and more offices are telling their employees to ditch their footwear while at work for reasons of comfort and creativity.
Article excerpt: "Slippers, socks and the occasional novelty toe warmer are fast becoming part of the office dress code for startups hoping to ease stress and boost creativity.
It might sound like a gimmick conjured up during a yoga retreat, but asking staff to leave their shoes at the door taps into something more serious: how to make the workplace feel a little less like work.
With record levels of work-related stress in the UK, rising burnout and a labour force increasingly focused on wellbeing over salary, even small changes can have a surprising impact.
Inspired in part by Silicon Valley startups where footwear-free floors are reportedly spreading faster than kombucha fridges, some British companies are trialling no-shoes policies as a way to improve focus, comfort and even staff morale.
Natalie James, the founder of the skincare startup, helloSKIN, introduced a sock-only policy at her UK office last year. 'Offices are, by their very nature, stressful environments,' she said. 'If a little thing like taking off your shoes makes you feel more comfortable - and thus be more creative - then that’s a no-brainer.”
James has rules: no bare feet, clean socks only (with no holes) and shoes must be worn in kitchens, bathrooms and outside. She says the effects have been surprisingly powerful: 'There’s definitely been an increase in calmness, and with that comes better focus and more creativity.'"
Well, I'm glad to see that they have some rules, at least. No bare feet. No socks with holes... and the fact that shoes must be worn in certain areas. For me, though, I'd rather just keep my shoes on because that's more comfortable for me. People with fallen arches are going to find it difficult to give up their specialty footwear! No shoes does not mean comfort for everyone.

Huh? Young people are flocking where? To Costco? Yup!
For some reason, I keep thinking Costco is a place where older people tend to shop. But, like, many other things, I'm dead wrong on that one. Young people are turning more and more to Costco based on prices, family tradition and a strong social media cult following.
Article excerpt: "Data shows that young people are struggling with the cost of living. Research from the Agri-Food Analytics Lab at Dalhousie University found that about 40 per cent of people in Gen Z were using their savings or borrowed money to buy food, compared to 20 per cent of baby boomers.
A recent report from Restaurants Canada also found that while 75 per cent of Canadians overall said they were dining out less frequently because of the rising cost of living, that figure jumped to 81 per cent for those between the ages of 18 and 34.
... "But the love for Costco goes beyond the hunt for a good deal.
From the Costco Guys - a father-son duo who rate foods at the store (good ones get a 'boom,' bad ones get a 'doom') - to people throwing Costco-themed birthday parties, or even birthday parties at Costco, social media is awash with Costco content.
Influencers who post exclusively about Costco have also popped up, including the Canadian 'queen' of Costco, Tina Chow. The Calgarian posts under the handle @costcoloverscanada on TikTok where she has more than 178,000 followers, and runs a group by the same name on Facebook."
Personally, I love Costco. Not everything is the best price you can get out there, but a huge percentage is. And in this day and age, you can't beat that!
