Crossing Guard Appreciation Week
Crossing Guard Appreciation Week is  November 13-17th. Please take time to thank our Crossing Guards, Addie Hayes (LaVista & Briarlake) and Jacqueline Smith (Silvastone & Briarlake)  for keeping kids and parents safe on their way to school.
Please also give special thanks to Briarlake Gifted Teacher, Melissa McMillan, for ensuring families walking to school are safe crossing the carpool lane, and Sergeant Davidson for stopping illegal left turners and directing traffic on to LaVista Rd.  Please appreciate them with small gifts, have your kids make them a card, share some baked goods, give them a hug or just say thanks. Take a moment to let them know how much we appreciate their presence in our community!

Here is a Thank You Card Template to help!

Here is the Carpool Safety Flyer as a reference since making our routes to school safer for our students is always one of our top priorities!

Help create a world with more birthdays!
A world with less cancer is a world with more birthdays! Show your support by purchasing a cupcake to celebrate more birthdays November 6-17th !
The Relay for Life committee is selling paper cupcakes that students can decorate to be placed on the halls of the school. Flyers will be in Friday folders on November 3rd.

Buy one in support of someone battling cancer, in memory of someone who died from cancer, in honor of someone who beat cancer, or just for Relay for Life research .
Each cupcake is $1 . Fill out the form and send in $1 for each cupcake you would like to purchase. Your child's teacher will give the child a paper cupcake drawing. You may then decorate the cupcake and put the name of who the cupcake is in support of. If you are just buying a cupcake
for cancer research, you can write "Relay Research" or the students can write their own name.
After you have decorated the cupcake , your child's teacher will collect them and we will display all the cupcakes on the school walls for all to see how we are helping to create more birthdays!
Click here for the donation form in both English and Spanish.

District News
DeKalb County School District to continue 20-minute extended-day class schedule through November 30.

DeKalb County School District (DCSD) will continue to add 20 minutes to its school day through Thursday, Nov. 30, in an effort to recapture much of the instructional time lost due to the storm known as Hurricane Irma.
Other important aspects of this plan include:
  • There will be no 20-minute extended day on Tuesday, Oct. 31.
  • DCSD schools and offices will also remain open on Election Day (Tuesday, Nov. 7) as the district ensures that students don't miss out on lessons vital to their academic achievement.
  • Schools will also be closed Nov. 20-24 for the Thanksgiving Holiday.
  • Winter Break will remain as originally scheduled.
In sum, these moves will allow DCSD to recover three of the four days lost to Irma. The district will waive the fourth day.
