Traffic Transformation

The existing Calcasieu River Bridge, built in the 1950s, has become a bottleneck for traffic. With its narrow lanes and steep approach grades, the bridge struggles to handle the high volume of vehicles, leading to frequent congestion, especially during peak hours. Additionally, the bridge's limited capacity and lack of shoulders make it difficult for drivers to pass safely, further exacerbating traffic delays.

The new bridge project will not only increase the bridge's capacity but also improve safety with full shoulders and roadway lighting. The new design will also feature a less steep approach, making it easier for vehicles to navigate.

One of the most anticipated improvements is the railroad overpass at Sampson Street. Currently, trains passing through the Sampson Street crossing cause significant delays for motorists. The new elevated roadway will eliminate these blockages, allowing for a seamless flow of traffic and reducing wait times for both drivers and trains.

We are committed to keeping you informed and involved throughout the construction process. Stay tuned for more updates and thank you for your patience and support as we work to improve our infrastructure.

Work continues behind the scenes to move the Calcasieu River Bridge Project forward.
