Bridge Club of North County

News & Events

https://www.bcncsandiego.org/

Greetings!

It's time!

The year was 2007. Lee Hofacre bought the club. Tables fees were raised to $11 ($10 with white tickets).

Fast forward to 2026. That's almost nineteen years without a price increase. That's remarkable. But all good things come to an end.

Starting Monday June 1st table fees will be $13 ($12 with white tickets).

BCNC

Bridge at it's finest.

Last month I explained that Grass Roots are special events that begin at the club level. Players that qualify at the club level advance to the District level. District winners go to the ACBL Nationals and play for a National Championship. The North American Pairs (NAP) is one such event. The event is stratified.

Eligibility for the various flights is as follows:

1. Championship Flight Open to any player

2. Flight A Players with fewer than 6000 MPs

3. Flight B Players with fewer than 3000 MPs

4. Flight C Players with fewer than 750 MPs who are not Life Masters

June, July and August are NAP Qualifying Months at the club level. BCNC is scheduling qualifying games each month. See Special events section for dates. District playoffs will occur later in the Fall.

The Longest Day

June 19th

Alzheimer

The Longest Day is an annual fundraising event held to support the fight against Alzheimer’s disease by the Alzheimer’s Association. The ACBL is an inaugural global partner for this effort, and after 11 years of participating, bridge players have raised more than $9 million!

The event spans the longest day of the year, the Summer Solstice, and symbolizes the challenging journey of those living with Alzheimer’s and their caregivers.

All funds raised will go to further the efforts of the Alzheimer’s Association.

ACBL fable fees are donated. In addition BCNC is donating $500.

Additional donations by players can be made by visiting the page provided specifically for that purpose or by leaving a check at the BCNC made out to Alzheimer's Association.

San Diego Oasis is having a Spring fundraiser and we encourage our players to support Oasis. Why your gift matters: Program fees cover only 40% of what it takes to operate Oasis. The rest is made possible through the generosity of donors.

There is a $50,000 matching gift at play, so your donation gets double the power. We bridge players have a chance to appreciate the wonderful room we have to play this amazing game by supporting Oasis and getting a tax deductible donation.

Open Game Partnership Requests

Please do not call the club for help finding a partner. If you need a partner for the Open Game, please submit a request using the Contact Us form on our website: bcncsandiego.org. Help is available to assist you given more than 24 hours notice. Director's simply don't have the time to fulfill last minute requests for partners.

The ACBL has 4 convention charts : the Basic Chart, Basic+ Chart, Open Chart, and Open+ Chart. BCNC uses the Open Chart for all games. You can view the charts using this link ACBL Convention Charts.

Conventions on the Open + Chart are not allowed in BCNC club games.

If you are not sure you can use a convention ask a director.

The ACBL requires that partnerships have completed filling in their convention cards and that both cards are identical.

Players may use the old or new convention card.

50 Years of Unit & Club History

Revision 3 January 2024

History

Sometimes things go wrong even in a zero tolerance club. It is best to call the director immediately. Most problems can be resolved at the table. Failing that, do you know the procedure for reporting it?

If it involves another player, see the director.

You can request the director to log it in the Club Incident Log. In some cases you may be requested to complete a Player Memo for disciplinary chair review.

It it involves the director, please report it to the Club Manager (Bill Sperry).

North County Inland ACBL Unit 549

BCNC is affiliated with and supports Unit 549

To visit their website click the following link.

Unit 549

Club (BCNC) VS Unit (549) - What's the difference?

Many players think they are the same thing.

Bridge clubs are not part of the ACBL. Bridge Clubs are independent business. Neither the ACBL or an ACBL Unit have any jurisdiction over a club.

A Unit is the smallest geographical part of the ACBL. ACBL has jurisdiction over units.

A club is associated with a unit simply because they are in the same geographical area.
