Last night, we set up a new traffic pattern, reducing three lanes to two lanes along I-295 at the Mendon Road Bridge in Cumberland. This will allow us safely continue rehabilitating this bridge. Tonight, weather permitting, we are scheduled to reopen the Gano Street Exit (1D) off I-195 West in Providence as part of our ongoing work at the Washington Bridge.

Airport Connector, Warwick
Landscaping continues at the Airport Connector with a daytime right shoulder closure on I-95 North and South between the Airport Connector on and off-ramps, weekdays from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Motorists can also expect partial lane closures for sidewalk and concrete work on Post Road, from Warwick Avenue to Rhode Island T.F. Green International Airport, weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Aquidneck Avenue, Middletown
We’re continuing to build new sidewalks along this 1-mile stretch of Aquidneck Avenue. Alternating one-way traffic, from East Main Road to Green End Avenue, is scheduled for weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Henderson Bridge, East Providence
No lane closures are planned as we continue working on the new bridge barrier and do prep work prior to applying the bridge deck waterproofing. We’ll also be building the second half of the Massasoit Avenue roundabout, with a focus on drainage, curbing, and electrical work.

I-95 North Viaduct, Providence
As we work on bridge piers, we need to close Exits 38 B, C and D off I-95 North, Sunday-Thursday nights from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. Daytime sidewalk installations also require the closure of Park Street north, from Hayes Street to Smith Street, weekdays from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Please follow signed detours. Other anticipated operations include overnight alternating lane closures to demolish the old Viaduct bridge on I-95 North, from Atwells Avenue to Charles Street, Sunday-Thursday nights from 9 p.m.-6 a.m. This includes the continued overnight demolition of the Smith Street Bridge, with noise anticipated, during the same time period. Lane shifts to form the new Viaduct bridge deck on West Exchange Street, from Sabin Street to Fox Place, are also scheduled, weekdays from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Pell Bridge Ramps Phase 2, Newport
Businesses remain open with traffic personnel onsite while the majority of our daytime operations continue weekdays from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. We plan to install the median island along Admiral Kalbfus Road, with a left lane closure as required, from the roundabout to the intersection of Malbone Road and Girard Avenue. We will also continue wetland restoration along the now closed “road to nowhere.” Please be cautious of trucks entering and exiting this area. Additionally, temporary lane shifts along JT Connell Highway from the JT Connell Connector intersection to the intersection with Van Zandt Avenue will be necessary for drainage and utility work, weekdays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Lane shifts may also be needed for steel painting on three bridges over Third Street and JT Connell Highway, weekdays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., which may include weekend work.

Route 6/10 Interchange Reconstruction, Providence
Overnight paving requiring alternating lane closures is scheduled on Route 10 South, from Tobey Street to Westminster Street, and on Route 6 West, from the 6/10 split to Hartford Avenue, Monday-Friday nights from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Within the same project limits along Route 10 South and Route 6 West, weekdays from 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., motorists can expect alternating lane closures as we build a retaining wall along Route 10 North approaching the future Westminster Street off-ramp. Weekday work also includes the concrete substructure of the new ramp from Route 6 West to Route 10 South, and precast median barrier installation in the Route 6 median, from the Plainfield Street on-ramp to the flyover bridge.

Route 37 Improvements, Cranston/Warwick
Bridge Group 51A: Pontiac Avenue to Post Road (see photo, above)
Drainage work continues on Pontiac Avenue with alternating lane closures from Sockanosset Cross Road to the Route 37 East ramps, weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. We area also scheduled to install curbing for the median island on Pontiac Avenue, and pave the decks on the bridges carrying Route 37 West over Jefferson Boulevard, and over the Pawtuxet River.
Bridge Group 51B: I-295 area (see photo, below)
Overnight bridge construction involves a right lane closure on I-295 South in the vicinity of Route 37 (Exits 3A and 3B), Sunday-Thursday nights from 8 p.m.-5 a.m. Overnight bridge repairs will be performed on Route 37 East with alternating lane closures from Natick Avenue to Glen Hills Drive, Monday night from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Daytime bridge construction necessitates an alternating one-way traffic pattern and frequent vehicle access in/out of the work zone on Cranston Street below Route 37 (between Sherman Avenue and Overbrook Drive), weekdays from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Route 146, Lincoln/North Smithfield
Our focus this week will be overnight steel installation which will involve temporary road closures, rolling roadblocks, and lane closures Monday-Wednesday nights from midnight to 6 a.m. On Monday night, we need to close Route 146 South and its Service Road, between Route 99 and Route 116. On Tuesday night, a rolling roadblock will be set up on both directions of Route 146, between Route 99 and Route 116, and on Wednesday night, we need to close Route 146 North and have a rolling roadblock, between Route 116 and Route 99. Please follow signed detours. On Sunday-Thursday nights from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., we will also take alternating lanes on I-295, from Route 7 to Route 122, and on the Route 146 North Service Roads, from Route 116 to Route 99, Monday-Thursday nights from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.
Again, no full closures or rolling roadblocks will take place until after midnight, when traffic volumes are lowest.
Meanwhile, Sayles Hill Road westbound traffic at Route 146 remains detoured for daytime drainage work, weekdays from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and alternating lane closures are scheduled for road construction on Route 146, from Route 146A to the Massachusetts line, weekdays from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Washington Bridge, East Providence/Providence
Weather permitting, after daytime paving and striping, we are scheduled to reopen the Gano Street exit off I-195 West tonight, Friday, October 13. Ongoing bridge deck repairs may necessitate ramp and right lane closures, on I-195 West, from Broadway to South Main Street, Sunday-Thursday nights from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Please follow signed detours. We also plan to clean and reline the existing sewer line, with alternating one-way traffic on Gano Street, under I-195, weekdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., continue concrete substructure and partial depth bridge deck repairs, and reconstruct the right-side wall for the Gano Street off-ramp.
