Bridge Update

Bridges

Last evening, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) released its final recommendation regarding the future of the Cape Cod Canal bridges.

We are extremely gratified with the USACE recommendation to replace both Canal bridges. Replacement of the Sagamore and Bourne Bridges is an economic necessity that will drastically improve safe and efficient travel to and from Cape Cod for area residents, workers, and visitors.

After a decade of discussion and analysis and public input at all levels, this is something we have advocated for quite some time. We feel confident that this is the best course of action. We can now continue to work for funding and get into definitive design phase in conjunction with the surrounding communities.

We are extremely grateful for the leadership of our elected officials from the town, county, state and federal level who have championed the cause of public safety, adequate evacuation and access routes, and improving quality of life as anyone who has dealt with traffic at the bridge can appreciate.

We look forward to the next steps, but will take a moment to appreciate this for the milestone that it is.
