Hurricane Season Begins June 1 – Prepare Now

Two wooden blocks with the words " Emergency Preparedness" on them being held by a hand.

Hurricane Season officially begins this Sunday, June 1, and Broward County residents are encouraged to prepare now before a storm threatens South Florida. To help the community get ready, Broward County’s Office of Emergency Management will host a Hurricane Preparedness Open House on Saturday, July 11, from 9 AM to 2 PM at the African American Research Library and Cultural Center in Fort Lauderdale. Residents can learn how to prepare their families, pets, homes, and businesses for hurricanes, severe weather and other unexpected emergencies. Don’t wait until the last minute to make a plan, build a supply kit and stay informed this hurricane season. Learn More

Public Safety Reminder Ahead of World Cup Activities

person dialing 911 emergency call on cellphone.

As Broward County prepares for increased international visitors surrounding World Cup activities, Broward County’s Office of Regional Communications and Technology continues working with national partners to understand better and address challenges international visitors may face when calling 9-1-1 without a U.S. based phone.

International visitors are encouraged to connect to a U.S wireless network upon arrival and call 9-1-1 directly in an emergency. Callers should stay on the line, even if the connection takes longer than expected, and clearly provide their location before describing the emergency. Residents and visitors are also encouraged to stay alert and report suspicious activity. Remember: If You See Something, Say Something.

Future Filmmakers Start Here

Do you have a young filmmaker in your community? NSU University School – one of Broward County’s valued partners – is bringing back its Film Forward summer camp in Fort Lauderdale, giving students entering grades 8-12 a chance to step behind the camera and bring their ideas to life. Over one week, campers will collaborate on a short film while learning directly from industry pros, covering everything from development to cinematography and editing. No experience needed, just creativity. Camp runs from July 21-31, 9 AM to 3 PM. Deadline to apply is June 15. See Details

Broward Connects with Our Future

Throwback to Take Your Child to Work Day in April when the kids of Broward County employees took over the Broward Connects Podcast. In this special episode, children interview one another about what they learned throughout the day and share what their parents do to help serve Broward County residents. It’s a fun and unique way to look at County Government through the eyes of the next generation.

Turn up the volume and take a listen.

Support Children in Need Through Christmas in July

a donations box filled with toiletries.

Homelessness can affect anyone, including children attending school right here in Broward County. Many students facing housing insecurity may also lack access to necessities such as school supplies, hygiene products, and clothing. That's where Christmas in July comes in. County employees and residents are encouraged to donate essential items such as school supplies and toiletries to help support children and families experiencing homelessness throughout Broward County. Donation boxes are placed throughout County facilities. See Donation Drop-Off Locations
