UCSF Continuing Medical Education Achieves Highest Level of Accreditation Possible
|
UCSF has been accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Dental Association (ADA) to provide continuing education (CE) credit for physicians, pharmacists, and dentists, respectively. 2023 was the first year UCSF CME achieved Joint Accreditation status, which was established by national accrediting bodies to create a unified framework that allows accredited organizations to enhance interprofessional continuing education for health care professionals using one set of criteria.
In 2024, UCSF CME achieved Joint Accreditation with Commendation, the highest level of accreditation available. Joint Accreditation with Commendation is awarded to continuing education providers that demonstrate commitment as a learning organization and as a change agent for the interprofessional health care teams they serve. Our accreditation cycle was extended from four years to six years.
UCSF CME is now licensed to provide CE credit to physicians, pharmacists, registered nurses, advanced practice nurses, physician assistants, dentists, athletic trainers, psychologists, and social workers using only one set of requirements. The goal is to integrate our processes and efforts across professional schools to promote interprofessional, team-based education in the lifelong learning domain.

Celebrating Our Recent Successes: Enhancing Medical Student Study, Relaxation, and Storage Spaces at UCSF
|
This spring, the UCSF School of Medicine successfully met the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) standards for student space (Element 5.11). The LCME is the nationally recognized accrediting authority for medical education programs leading to the M.D. degree in the United States and Canada. The required standard ensures adequate study, relaxation, and storage spaces for medical students to support student learning, preparation, well-being, and success.
Over the past five years, School of Medicine leadership, in collaboration with clerkship directors, coordinators, and staff, made significant space improvements to UCSF and affiliate sites to enhance student well-being. Since 2018, three new clinical spaces and lounges have been constructed, and existing spaces have been optimized, resulting in increased student satisfaction with space and UCSF's achievement of the LCME standard. Medical students can now quickly locate these areas using the Student Space Finder.
The UCSF Educational Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) staff team presented at the Accreditation Professionals Quality Improvement (APQI) conference in May 2024. Their abstract and oral presentation, "Decoding Student Space Satisfaction," earned a Best Oral Presentation award. For more information about the School of Medicine's approach to space improvement, please read the "Decoding Student Space Satisfaction" presentation and abstract.
These achievements underscore our ongoing commitment to enhancing the medical student experience and fostering a supportive and enriching learning environment.

2025 AAMC Western Group Collaborative Conference Update
|
The 2025 AAMC Western Region Collaborative Conference will be held in Portland, Oregon. Due to the venue change, UCSF will no longer host the 2025 Western Region Collaborative Conference.
The decision to host the conference in Portland was made by the AAMC and was driven by projected conference expenses and the estimated cost of attendance.
We are grateful to Dr. Odi Ehi, Dr. Era Kryzhanovskaya, Sara Clemons, and the planning committee for the effort they have already put into planning the 2025 conference.
The conference call for proposals is now open, and the conference will be held May 2-5, 2025.
