In mid-December, 104 second-year UCSF medical students presented their research at the Summer Explore Symposium, a four-day event hosted by the Inquiry Curriculum at the UCSF Parnassus Heights campus. Faculty experts led student poster sessions, covering a wide range of qualitative and quantitative research topics, from using CRISPR to assess protein function to validating cardiac risk scores in maternal congenital heart disease and applying AI in care delivery. | |
Seeking Facilitators for Introduction to Career Launch Teaching Opportunities | |

The Introduction to Career Launch team is seeking faculty facilitators for established small group sessions on the following topics: Difficult Conversations, Interprofessional Collaboration, Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS), and Simulation. LCME Accreditation / Educational Continuous Quality Improvement

The UCSF School of Medicine is entering its scheduled accreditation cycle with the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME). LCME accreditation is essential for our students to obtain licensure in the U.S. and for the School of Medicine to receive Title VII federal funding.
The accreditation process culminates with an in-person site visit at UCSF from February 1-3, 2027. This fall, we will launch a formal institutional self-study involving faculty, students, and administrators. We will keep you apprised of the conduct of the review through the Bridges Curriculum newsletter and leadership updates.

Medical Education Welcomes new Faculty Educators to Provide Career Advising and Improved Learning Experience | |
Calvin Chou, MD, PhD, was appointed Faculty Specialist for the Customized Approaches to Bolster the Learning Environment (CABLE) program effective December 1, 2024. CABLE is a new medical education program funded by the California Wellness Foundation, the American Medical Association, and the School of Medicine. CABLE seeks to create an integrated model of remediation to better assess and holistically support students with complex needs. He will continue in his role as Director of the VALOR Longitudinal Clerkship. | |

Fourth-Year Student, Alli Gomez-Ojeda, Receives UC President's Award for Outstanding Student Leadership | |
Alli Gomez-Ojeda, a fourth-year UCSF medical student enrolled in the San Joaquin Valley PRIME program, was recently honored with the UC President’s Award for Outstanding Student Leadership for her efforts in advancing anti-oppression, diversity, and equity in medical education and patient care at UCSF’s San Francisco and Fresno campuses. Her leadership has driven meaningful changes to the Bridges Curriculum and enhanced the experience of LGBTQ+ students. | |

The annual Chancellor Awards for Diversity recognize the outstanding efforts of individuals at UCSF who demonstrate a strong commitment to the elimination of barriers to full inclusion for all people.
Jada Williams, MS3, was the student winner of the 2024 Chancellor Award for Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Leadership. She is recognized for volunteering as part of UCSF's Black Health Initiative to improve care and address health disparities in the Black community at the UCSF Black Health Initiative/Booker T. Washington Community Clinic.
A recent article titled, "UCSF Medical Student Plans to Serve the World's 'Forgotten' Patients," chronicles Jada's journey to a career in medicine and her commitment to addressing health disparities at the local level.

Ilios Wins UC Tech Award for Innovation in Information Technology | |
Ilios, a curriculum management system developed and supported by members of the UCSF Office of Medical Education's Technology Enhanced Education Team and UCSF Education IT staff recently won UC Tech's highest honor, the Larry L. Sautter Award for Innovation in Information Technology. Since 2021 alone, there have been 131 releases of the application, showing the team's commitment to maintaining a usable, accessible, and secure platform that meets the needs of students, staff, and faculty. | |

Academy of Medical Educators Informational Seminar
The Haile T. Debas Academy of Medical Educators (AME) at UCSF is holding an informational seminar available for anyone wanting to know more about the AME and about applying for membership. AME members include faculty from all the schools at UCSF. A panel of AME members from across UCSF will answer questions about the benefits of AME membership and discuss the application process.
