Bridgewater Academy Lions Trunk or Treat
On October 20th, a Trunk or Treat was hosted in collaboration with organizations in the community to raise funds for the 4th of July committee at “The Launch” 80 Spring St. Diane Sears said “We Lions "witches" offered a variety of allergy-free treats as well as the usual Halloween chocolate favorites. It was such fun to greet the huge crowd of all ages. The kids' costumes were outstanding, as were the many decorated vehicles participating. The upbeat music kept me dancing all afternoon. See some of our photos. We can't wait till next year's event.”
Invisible Heroes of Tomorrow attended with costumed characters, and Bridgewater Bagel served bubble drinks. Local businesses and organizations, including Bridgewater Print & Copy Center, Salon Fusion, America’s Little Angels Preschool, Barrett’s Alehouse Bridgewater, the Bridgewater Lions Club, GET Fit, A Million Little Dreamz, Aunties Creations LLC, Macaroni KID Bridgewater MA, Roche Bros. Supermarkets, and The Seven Line Project, participated with trunk-or-treat stations. This event marked a new Halloween tradition!

Historical Tidbit: A Historical Look at US Voting | |
1788: Electoral College is established.
If a candidate wins the popular vote (a vote cast by a citizen) in a state, they win that state's Electoral College vote. It is possible, mathematically, to win the popular vote and lose the presidential election.
1820–1830: As states join the union, they create their own state voting regulations. Eligible voters are mostly white males who own property. A small number of free black men are allowed to vote.
1848: Wisconsin enters the union and allows people from other countries the right to vote if they have lived in Wisconsin for one year and plan to become US citizens.
1850: Laws are created in some states that voters must pass a literacy test.
1866: The 14th Amendment to the Constitution is passed by Congress. Men aged 21 and over who are residents of the United States have the right to vote. Any state preventing these rights will lose electors in the Electoral College.
1869: 15th Amendment to the Constitution: All men had the right to vote regardless of race, color, or if they were formally slaves.
1877: The presidential election of 1876: the Electoral Commission gives disputed Electoral votes to Rutherford B. Hayes, despite Samuel Tilden winning the popular vote.
1890: Many states begin to use secret ballots so that voters cannot be bullied.
1920: On August 18, Congress passes the 19th Amendment to the Constitution, giving women the right to vote.
1964: Congress passed the 24th Amendment to the Constitution outlawing poll taxes. Poll taxes, or tax fees for voting.
1965: The Voting Rights Act is signed by President Lyndon Johnson. The act enforces the 15th Amendment by explicitly stating that obstacles, such as literacy tests or complicated ballot instructions, are against federal law.
1971: The 26th Amendment is passed, lowering the voting age from 21 to 18.
1975: Congress expands the Voting Rights Act to protect the voting rights of those people who do not speak or read English.

Climate Can Do:
Drinking Water Without Nano-plastics
Plastic water bottles are filled with tiny bits of plastic called nano-plastics. These are bits of plastic that have broken down so small we cannot see them. But they are there, according to studies by Consumer Reports, Columbia University, University of Missouri, and many others.
The best way to avoid drinking nano-plastics is to use a metal or glass reusable bottle and fill it with filtered tap water.
Reusable water bottles keep you healthy and decrease one major source of nano-plastics in our environment: the disposable water bottle.
This Climate Can Do article was written by Jacquelyn Rose.
