Bridgewater Little League Sportsmanship

In the Face of Game Loss

On Wednesday, August 19 the Bridgewater Little League (BLL) faced off against the Bayonne Little League in Williamsport, Pennsylvania for game one of the 2026 Little League Worlds Series. BLL is one of only 10 teams from across the United States who have won their way to a spot in the 2026 Little League World Series, and it comes as a direct result of their continued teamwork, and sportsmanship. In their opening game BLL lost 2-1 against the Bayonne, but that didn't dull their spirits.

As pictured on the right, pitcher Jude DeSimone tipped his hat towards Bayonne at the end of game one taking the loss with stride, and respect for his competition. This small act of sportsmanship is telling of the team at large, and will hopefully set the precedence for game two on Saturday, August 22.

Historical Tidbit:

Worker's Housing On Wall St.

Still found in Bridgewater today, these workers' houses were once part of the Lazell, Perkins, and Bridgewater Iron. Co. They were built along Wall Street; each had two residences for the workers to live in.

These homes were built during the late 19th century. Their exterior had aluminum siding with wooden shingles and board gable roofs. They occupied less than one acre per lot. Inside the house was one and a half stories.

The oldest of these buildings is on the northwest side of Wall Street, and were built in the late 1820s. The Bolton Place Houses would have been built between 1845-1852.

Taunton Watershed 2027 Tide Calendar Photo Contest

Now - September 2, 2026

The Taunton River Watershed Alliance is sponsoring a digital photography contest for its 2027 Tide Calendar and is accepting electronic submissions from adult and teen, amateur and professional photographers alike.

They are looking for photographs of wildlife, scenery, agriculture, evidence of the area’s historic and archeological heritage, and people enjoying the watershed.

Higher resolution images taken with your phone camera (instead of a social media app) and with the phone turned sideways (a landscape orientation) work the best with our printing format.

Photographs must be the sole property of the submitting party, and they must have been taken within the last five years WITHIN THE TAUNTON RIVER WATERSHED.

The submission deadline is September 2, 2026.

For more information and submission guidelines, please call the TRWA office at 508-828-1101 or visit our website at www.savethetaunton.org.

Library Support Stand-Out Stands Out

On Monday, August 10, 2026, the Bridgewater Board of Trustees, the Friends & Supporters of the Bridgewater Public Library and Bridgewater Communities for Civil Rights hosted a stand-out in support of the Bridgewater Public Library.

From 5 to 6 p.m. the community, young and old, gathered in front of the Academy Building and Bridgewater Public Library. Holding up homemade signs and yelling out chants, the crowd gained cheers and honks in support from passersby.

Held in response to the threat of state decertification, the Bridgewater Public Library emphasized in a post, "Every person who shows up sends a message that our library is worth investing in."

The stand-out can be measured as a success not only due to the size of the crowd, but by the might of the many voices heard.

As the Bridgewater Public Library states, "Strong libraries build strong communities," a sentiment that was evidently proven on the sunny evening of Monday, August 10.

Living Your Best Life

“There is no greater gift you can give or receive than to honor your calling. It’s why you were born. And how you become most truly alive.” ~ Oprah Winfrey

“We can’t save the world by playing by the rules, because the rules have to be changed.” ~ Greta Thunberg

“Only those who dare to fail greatly can ever achieve greatly.” ~ Robert F. Kennedy

“You only live once, but if you do it right, once is enough.” ~ Joe Lewis

“The purpose of life, after all, is to live it, to taste experience to the utmost, to reach out eagerly and without fear for newer and richer experience.” ~ Eleanor Roosevelt

I used to think journaling was a waste: "Why spend this glorious day pondering? "

But then I remember other days wasted; unhappy, without purpose, money or thinking I had no options. Days I felt unloved, face in my pillow, crying in frustration. Now I know, journaling is much better.

On days I journal, I feel those emotions, journal them, see and understand them. Then are able to re-frame the narrative if necessary, creating a growth moment.

I wish you all a fabulous week. Loving yourself, giving yourself the time you need, and living your best life. ~ Jacquie
