Celebrating National Senior Center Month in Bridgewater
National Senior Center Month is a time to celebrate and recognize the valuable services and programs senior centers provide to older adults across the country. It highlights the essential role these centers play in promoting health, wellness, and community engagement for seniors. Here in Bridgewater, the Bridgewater Senior Center is a cornerstone of support, offering a wide variety of activities, health services, and social opportunities that enhance the quality of life for its senior residents.
Throughout September, the Bridgewater Senior Center, located on Wally Krueger Way, will be marking National Senior Center Month with special events and activities. These include the TRIAD Senior Safety Expo on September 15, a flu clinic on September 20, and several social programs like fitness classes and educational workshops. The Senior Center staff, along with local volunteers, ensure that older adults in the area have access to the physical, emotional, and social support they need. Whether you are new to the center or a long-time participant, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
The center is committed to fostering a strong sense of community while also addressing the health and wellness needs of older adults. From daily exercise and educational programs to special social gatherings, the Senior Center is a place where seniors can stay active, engaged, and connected. Their ongoing services, such as COA Van Rides, meal programs, and recreational activities, help ensure that seniors remain connected to their community. Additionally, the ActiveAging program promotes both physical fitness and social interaction, emphasizing the importance of an active and fulfilling lifestyle.
To get involved or learn more about the Bridgewater Senior Center, visit their website at bridgewaterma.org or stop by in person. Whether you’re looking to participate in an event, volunteer, or simply explore the range of services available, the Bridgewater Senior Center is here to support and enrich the lives of older adults in the community.
Let’s take this month to honor the incredible work being done at the Bridgewater Senior Center and celebrate the positive impact it has on the lives of our senior citizens!

The fire tower was built around 1900 to serve as a watch tower for fires, and to hold a signal alarm bell to call fireman and to dry wet hoses.
The signal bell was never installed but the other uses worked well up until the late 1940's.
A steam signal horn was installed on the shoe factory on Broad Street instead, later replaced by an air horn on the Town Hall.
During WWII it was also used as a watch tower for airplane traffic.
Respectfully submitted,
David Moore

Climate Can Do: Overconsumption and Sustainable Practices
What Is Overconsumption?
Overconsumption is the excessive consumption or use of something. Without change we could eventually run out, or create more than we can dispose of.
How Can We Help?
Live sustainably, make lifestyle choices that help you and the planet. Small changes make a big impact:
*Walk, bike or take public transportation whenever possible!
*Consider alternatives to single use items:
- A reusable shopping bag.
- Skip the plastic bottles; all sorts of reusable bottles can be found in metal, glass and recycled plastic
- Replace Saran Wrap with wraps made from beeswax, cotton, and tree oil that keep food fresher and can be reused repeatedly.
- Use reusable towels instead of paper towels.
*Consider eating 2 or 3 meatless dinners / week:
Don’t throw away leftovers; eating leftovers will help you avoid food waste and save you money. Freeze pre-made meals for handy eating later.
*Rather than replacing, repair.
Do not automatically discard broken items when they break. Instead, try repairing it. Using this method can save you money and reduce landfill waste. Repair shops and Youtube Videos are readily available to help you fix things.
*Join Buy Nothing.
With Buy Nothing, you can get rid of unwanted things around your house and get things you need for free. As their motto states “Buy Nothing. Share Everything,” a sustainable living app aimed at the community.
*Shop local.
By shopping locally, you reduce the impact of transportation on the environment and support your local economy.

Sisterhood
“Once upon a time there were two sisters. One of them was really, really strong, and one of them wasn't.' You looked at me. 'Your turn.'
I rolled my eyes. 'The strong sister went outside into the rain and realized the reason she was strong was because she was made out of iron, but it was raining and she rusted. The end.'
No, because the sister who wasn't strong went outside into the rain when it was raining, and hugged her really tight until the sun came out again.”
~ Jodi Picoult, Handle with Care
"Women who understand how powerful they are do not give into envy over meaningless things, instead they fight to maintain the beautiful bond of the sisterhood. These are the real women who know that we need each other's love & support to survive in this world. Love is the essence of being a woman. We must be that light of love that seals the bond & unique beauty of our sisterhood." ~ Bindu
