BOE Honors Girls' Swimming and Wrestling

The Bridgewater-Raritan High School wrestling team and girls' swim team, which each won a state sectional championship on the same day of February 12, were honored by the Board of Education on the evening of Tuesday, May 13, at the Wade Administration Building.

The girls' swim team rebounded from a 1-4 start to the winter season, reaching the North 2, Group 4 state sectional final as the second seed. Its opponent was its long-time rival and the top seed, Westfield High School.

Bridgewater-Raritan, guided by Hall of Fame coach Chris Levin, pulled off the upset and defeated Westfield, 88-82, on Wednesday afternoon, February 12. Bridgewater-Raritan was then defeated by Montclair High School in the Group A state semifinal.

Shortly after the girls' swim team won its state sectional title, the wrestling team stepped onto its home mat at Bridgewater-Raritan High School to face Bayonne High School in the North Jersey, Section 2, Group 5 state final.

Bridgewater-Raritan pinned a 57-13 defeat on Bayonne to win its first state sectional championship since 2016, when its current head coach, Kyle Murphy, was a senior on the team.

The wrestlers then advanced to the Group 5 state final, the program's first appearance ever in a group championship bout. Bridgewater-Raritan fell in the Group 5 state final to Southern Regional High School. The memorable season also featured a 21-8 record, which was a school record for victories.
