The beginning of a new year is a perfect time to introduce—or reintroduce—you to the Redwood City Library Foundation and the vital role it plays in our community.
Founded in 1998 by Georgi LaBerge, Sandra Cooperman, and Jack Grennalch, the Foundation was created to enhance library services beyond public funding and to support innovative initiatives. Early projects included Traveling Storytime, the first book collection for the Redwood Shores Branch Library and the development of its Interpretive Center.
Since then, the Foundation’s impact has continued to grow. We have funded Baby Bay exhibits in all three branches, fundraised $700k for the Downtown Library’s Makerspace and supported initiatives that expand access to learning and opportunity. Current initiatives include Brainfuse, Bridging the Digital Divide, Career Online High School, the Summer Learning Challenge, Makerspace upgrades and Traveling Storytime.
The Foundation has also sponsored community events such as STEAM Fest and the annual Upscale Pub Crawl for Banned Books Week. Our 4th Annual Pub Crawl drew more than 500 attendees and raised $45,000. Overall, the Foundation has raised more than $4 million for Redwood City Public Library, with a part-time Executive Director and a large team of volunteers.
We could not do this without our donors. Thank you for all you have done and will continue to do in support of the library.
