Georgia Leads in Behavioral Health Integration

Imagine a healthcare system where behavioral health, primary care, and social services work in perfect harmony—where providers have seamless access to critical patient information, enabling whole-person care without barriers. That future is no longer a vision—it’s a reality in Georgia, thanks to GaHIN -GeorgiaUnify.

The Office of the Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation (ASPE) at the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services recently released the report, HIE Support for Integration of Behavioral Health Settings, underscoring the essential role Health Information Exchanges (HIEs) play in bridging behavioral health with the broader healthcare system. The report highlights the urgent need to:

✅ Enhance data sharing

✅ Remove regulatory barriers

✅ Improve interoperability

Georgia is already leading the charge with GeorgiaConnX &GeorgiaUnify, the integrated platform of the Georgia Health Information Network (GaHIN). This innovative program is breaking down silos, ensuring behavioral health providers can access and exchange critical health information—ultimately improving care coordination and patient outcomes.

But we can’t do it alone. We need YOU to be part of the movement.

Connecting to Whole-Person Care:

United Way & GaHIN Partner for Impact

At GaHIN, we’re redefining healthcare in Georgia by integrating social care with medical care. That’s why we’re excited to announce a groundbreaking partnership with United Way of Greater Atlanta and United Way of Central Georgia.

Through this collaboration, United Way’s 211 Database—a vast network of community resources—will be integrated into GaHIN’s statewide health information exchange. This means:

🔹 Healthcare providers can seamlessly connect patients to vital social services

🔹 Public health agencies can coordinate care more effectively

🔹 Patients receive holistic, whole-person care tailored to their needs

As Dr. Denise Hines, GaHIN’s Executive Director, puts it:

“This partnership reinforces our commitment to transforming how healthcare and social care intersect in Georgia.”
