THIS WEEK IN DOVER (& D.C.)

Today wraps up a productive week in Dover and D.C.! I began my week in Washington, D.C. at the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce’s (USHCC) Legislative Summit. The summit is designed to highlight Hispanic-owned businesses and bring them and others together to advocate for the Hispanic business community.

Locally, in Dover, several important bills saw action this week. Those include:

  • SB 255: Wage Payment & Collection Act
  • SB 229: Former Employees Right to Inspect Personnel Files
  • HS 2 for HB 350: Diamond State Hospital Cost Review Board

CHARLTON ROADS TO SUCCESS PROGRAM

EMPOWERS THE SHIFT FROM CAMPUS TO CAREER

Located at the Delaware State University Downtown Campus, the Charlton Roads to Success Program targets students with intellectual disabilities and autism, offering them a supportive environment to refine both the hard and soft skills necessary for successful employment. “We work to foster an environment that creates authentic opportunities for the students where they can be around same-aged peers on the college campus,” Megan Polichetti, assistant principal for Caesar Rodney Countywide Programs, explains. AMBASSADOR SPOTLIGHT

MIKE PFEIFER

The State Chamber's Ambassador Committee serves as outward-facing representatives of the organization with three key goals: fostering new relationships; engaging member businesses and the community as a whole; and amplifying the voice and mission of the State Chamber. Meet our featured ambassador: Mike Pfeifer, owner and founder of 1440 Film Company >

"It's nice to know that I have a group in Dover that is advocating for businesses, both large and small. I don't have time to keep up on every issue, so knowing that the Chamber is there on our behalf is a huge benefit."

NAME, IMAGE & LIKENESS

PARTNERING WITH STUDENT-ATHLETES

In a nutshell, you as a business or product owner can tap into some of the most connected and dynamic individuals around for advertising and promotional purposes. Read more >

"Having the student athletes added a level of authenticity to our shoot that is very hard to replicate with actors. They were an absolute joy to work with and we were happy to support fellow Blue Hens at the same time. Wins all around!" - Mike Pfeifer, 1440 Film Co.

WORKING TO CLOSE THE COLLEGE COMPLETION GAP

DSU & SALLIE MAE LAUNCH INNOVATIVE PARTNERSHIP

Earning a college degree is one of the surest paths to a better life. Higher education increases wages and enables economic mobility for graduates. We know that those with a bachelor’s degree typically earn 66% more – $1 million more over their lifetime – than those with a high school diploma.

Getting students in the door of colleges and universities is important, but that has never been enough. We need to invest not only in college access but also in college completion. Read more >

FAST FACT: A study found that every $1,000 in grants provided to students increase their chances of college completion by 1.5% to 2%.
