Next week and beyond...

Join us for our Animal Theology Bible Study this fall with Nicole Struth. We will meet on Zoom at 6:00 p.m. (October 6 + 20, November 10, December 1 + 15) to consider what Scripture and Christian tradition have to say about animals, our place within God’s creation and our responsibilities toward the other creatures with whom we share this world. Together, we’ll explore how paying closer attention to animals can deepen our understanding of God, compassion, creation and what it means to live faithfully as part of a community of all creatures. You can sign up online, and the Zoom link will be sent to participants the day before each meeting. Attendance at all sessions is not required, so you can join in when you can for each unique topic. For more information, contact Nicole Struth at nicole@glastonburyfirst.org.

Join our Prayer & Share group on Tuesdays from 9:45-11:00 a.m. in the Parlor. We are continuing this fall with The Miracles by Gary Inrig. For more information, please contact Sandee Brown at seapearl44@gmail.com.

On Monday, October 12 (Indigenous Peoples’ Day), and Wednesday, November 11 (Veterans Day), we will be providing a crew of five to serve lunch at Hands On Hartford’s “Gather 55” from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. We will also provide homemade chocolate chip cookies. Please sign up online to serve the meals or bake cookies. For more information, please contact Sarah Proulx at sarahb3982@gmail.com or Judi Barber at jjbarber0623@gmail.com.

Register by October 15 if you want to join our annual Intergenerational Mission Trip to Biloxi, MS, from January 10 – 16, 2027. The work is varied, and participants don’t have to have construction skills. Details and registration forms are available on our website. (An online payment option is available, and we kindly ask you to consider covering the transaction fee.) If you have questions, contact Diana Ruddick at 860-463-3049 or dianakate525@gmail.com.

The annual First Church Potato Booth at the Glastonbury Apple Harvest and Music Festival is the weekend of Friday, October 16, to Sunday, October 18, and your help is needed! This is a fundraising event for our youth mission trips. We need adult and youth volunteers to wash, wrap and bake potatoes, bring cooked food to the booth, sell potatoes and clean up. Come join the fun and sign up online! If you can’t volunteer, you can still support us by buying a baked potato with your choice of toppings at the festival or at our grab and go station on Sunday, October 18. If you have questions, please contact Meredith Krauss at meredana@aol.com. Also, we are collecting donations of cases of water bottles and Gatorade to be sold at the booth, which can be dropped off in the back lobby of the church.

Learn at our Micah Moment on Sunday, October 18, at 11:30 a.m. in the Micah Chapel. Our Micah Children's Initiative Team will present The Joy, Connection and Impact of Volunteering with MCI at O’Brien School. O’Brien School Principal Diane Leja and others will help bring to life the impact our MCI volunteers have on O’Brien School and the broader community. Hear how our involvement helps make a difference in the lives of children, families and teachers in the community! Diane will also offer a brief moment of sharing during our 10:00 a.m. worship service.
