NATIONAL GOLF COURSE OWNERS ASSOCIATION CANADA

Bring National Golf Day to Your Riding

Engage with Politicians & Showcase Golf's Benefits

As a follow-up to National Golf Day this past May, NGCOA Canada is excited to announce the launch of the Golf in Your Riding campaign. On behalf of the National Allied Golf Associations (NAGA), we are reaching out to encourage your participation in this initiative by inviting your local Member of Parliament (MP) and Member of the National Assembly (MNA) to tour your golf club and witness firsthand the significant impact golf has on your community.

Why Participate?

  • 'Golf is Good' Storytelling: Help promote 'Golf is Good' storytelling by sharing positive golf stories nationwide.
  • Showcase the Impact: Highlight how golf benefits your community through health, social, economic, and environmental contributions.
  • Engage with Politicians: Discuss key issues affecting the golf industry and your club.
  • Promote Local Business: Demonstrate the importance of golf in local economies, supporting jobs and businesses.

Meet With Your Local Representatives

Golf in Your Riding is a grassroots campaign offering two options for meeting with your local representative:

  1. a facilities tour, practice session and meeting at your golf club, or
  2. a meeting can be arranged at the MP’s or MNA’s office.

To help set up your meeting, utilize the search tools in the links below to easily find your MP and MNA.

General Best Practices

Ensure you arrive on time and address MPs and MNAs appropriately.

Have an elevator pitch ready (see resource material below). Focus on the positive impacts of golf and avoid partisan topics.

Leverage key messages about golf's benefits from the leave behind document (see below). Print and provide the leave behind document as a takeaway for MPs and MNAs.

Dress Code: golf ready attire for club visits, business casual for office visits.

If Hosting at Your Club

Offer a full tour of your clubhouse, pro shop, and practice facilities, followed by a range session.

After the tour, have a 15–25 minute meeting to discuss key issues and leverage leave behinds (see below).

Keep any gifts modest, as MPs and MNAs often have restrictions on accepting them. For example, if a round of golf exceeds $40, the MP/MNA may need to pay for it.
