For the Big Give, we are sharing stories of IDRA’s research, policy advocacy, school practice, and family and community engagement and how the combination has the most impact for students. Here are some examples...
We stand against policies and practices that harm students, like school policing and exclusionary discipline, including suspensions, alternative school placements, expulsions and corporal punishment.
We listen to students, who, for example, surveyed their peers who report that misguided school discipline, like dress code violations, in-school suspension, and out-of-school suspension policies, are harmful and cause disruptions to their learning.
We help school districts examine their codes of conduct to ensure they are equitable and do not target or discriminate against any student group. And with the immediate need to make schools safe, IDRA is guiding schools to avoid strategies that feel like they work, when in fact they harm students.
IDRA trains and supports families, teachers, students and district leaders, focusing on research-based strategies and programs like restorative practices, culturally sustaining pedagogy and ethnic studies courses.
Your donation will help us ensure students attend schools that are safe and welcoming!
