The return of intermodal shipping?
The WTA is currently working on an initiative that would make the Milwaukee region a viable shipping hub once again by re-establishing intermodal service at the Port of Milwaukee.
Ever since Milwaukee's intermodal rail ramp closed in 2012, many metro area businesses have requested the restoration of that service. The intermodal ramp reduces the drayage cost and inefficiencies of having to truck intermodal containers out of state. To better demonstrate how widely this service would be used, WTA, along with our strategic partners, is conducting a survey to determine demand and convey that need to railroads serving our area. Market conditions over the past five years have changed dramatically and it is critical to present an updated view of intermodal activity and show that there is more than sufficient volume to support an intermodal terminal in metro Milwaukee.
For those who would utilize, and/or benefit from, the return of intermodal rail service, we hope you will participate in this data gathering mission.
to weigh in on the issue and watch upcoming emails to participate in an intermodal service survey.
