Welcome to our first issue of "The Brizaga Brief". A quick introduction before we jump in. Sure, we're engineers, scientists, and outreach specialists. But we're also neighbors, parents, beachgoers and hikers, people who care about the places we call home, from Florida to New York to Colorado. This work isn't just a job for us. It's something we care about deeply.

Just Launched | Extreme Heat Action Plan Builder

Extreme heat is the deadliest weather hazard in the United States. Brizaga’s new Extreme Heat Action Plan Builder gives local governments a free tool to build a heat action plan their departments can actually run: what to do, who owns it, and when.

Create an account, tell us about your organization, and build at your own pace. Export your action plan, responsibility matrix, and season calendar whenever you’re ready. If you want help building or carrying out the plan, our team is here for that too.

Event Update

WLW Seed4Solutions Launch

Alec Bogdanoff, Ph.D., Brizaga’s CEO, introduces the new WLW Seed4Solutions program.

On September 16, we celebrated the launch of WLW Seed4Solutions at Funky Buddha Brewery.

WLW Seed4Solutions is a seed-funding program established by Wayne and Lucretia Weiner. It pairs researchers from Florida Atlantic University and Nova Southeastern University with government agencies to develop near-term, practical solutions to Southeast Florida's environmental challenges. The $5M program offers awards of up to $500,000 over 12 or 24 months. Letters of interest are due Friday, December 11, 2026 by 5:00 PM ET.

PROPERTY TAX IMPACT.COM

Amendment 3 is on the November 3, 2026 ballot. It would raise the homestead exemption from non-school property taxes up to $250,000 of assessed value by 2028. That would lower a homeowner's bill and reduce the tax revenue cities and counties collect.

PropertyTaxImpact.com shows the impact on the homeowners, cities and counties. Pick your county and enter your address. The tool pulls the assessed value from the 2026 preliminary tax roll. It covers all 67 Florida counties.

Brizaga does not take a position on the amendment. We built the tool so people can see what it would mean for them and their communities.
