Communicating Through Video

Hello Ryder,

Public meeting video production changed the way people interact with their governments. Before cities could broadcast and record, they relied on people to make it to city council chambers. If they could make it at all, residents usually rushed to the chambers from work. Then came web streaming, expanding the range of devices that one could use to watch the meetings and choose when to watch them. Most recently, COVID changed the game allowing people to log on remotely and participate in their local city council or planning commission meeting from the road or while making dinner.

For constituents, public meetings are a lens into the inner workings of their local governments and an opportunity to engage in the representative government process. And local government earns higher marks for trust than the state and federal government, in part, because residents can actually see their government and talk during a council meeting. Video expands that reach and transparency making local government that much more accessible and trustworthy.

Tripepi Smith has been helping cities broadcast public meetings for years. Following an acquisition in December 2021, Tripepi Smith ramped up its video team capacity to six full-time employees executing on client video needs. Now eight public agencies and organizations rely on Tripepi Smith support for their public meeting broadcast needs. And when we aren’t producing meetings, our team is creating mayor’s minutes, animating video explainers, editing public service announcements or producing state of the city videos.

Tripepi Smith also helped our clients innovate throughout the pandemic to make the shift to “Zoom-Only” meetings and then to hybrid configurations. It required innovation and some bleeding edge thinking, but we made it happen.

The Tripepi Smith video team is onsite nearly every day of the week, helping bring government to the people. It is just one way we are working to help our clients maintain the trust of their communities while working to educate the public about critical issues affecting their neighborhoods.
