Inspiring students to try basic coding helps them develop a powerful skill set they can use to solve problems they care about today and in the future.
Broadcom Coding with Commitment™ is a program of the Broadcom Foundation aimed at motivating middle school students to try coding. Available to students in grades 5-8 who are participating in a Broadcom Foundation-supported science fair, competition, or STEM showcase, the Broadcom Coding with Commitment award highlights coding as an essential 21st-century skill, a language and design tool that empowers students to actively engage in solving the problems they are most passionate about in their communities.
Get inspired by students who received a Broadcom Coding with Commitment award this year for science projects like:
Building a virtual piano teacher
Developing an app to practice multiplication tables
Creating a game to help people with Alzheimer's or memory loss
Developing tools to improve the care of people with pneumonia
Building a system to enable early diagnosis of eye problems
Some coding projects are designed to run directly on a computer or device, but other coding projects connect programming with circuits, electronics, and sensors. These lessons are designed to teach physical computing using Arduino:
Summer offers students an unparalleled opportunity to do a STEM deep dive in an area of personal interest. They can experiment and build new skills and explore a topic in depth.
Help kids discover STEM careers that fit their interests! Students take a quick quiz (just 30 questions) about their interests and get a personalized list of STEM careers with detailed information to explore each pathway.
