Volunteers Needed!
The church Knit-Wits group are working on the Angel Blanket Project and need your help. This project is sponsored by the Tennessee Basketmakers Association in conjunction with the local Odds and Ends Basket Makers of Maryville. Baskets with baby blankets and pillows are furnished to the Breavement Program of East Tennessee Children’s Hospital as a service for families who lose newborn or premature babies. The Knit-Wits are able to make the blankets from their own resources, but the pillows are made from fabric and must be sewn. The pillows should be made of a soft, satin-like material, in white or cream with cotton barren in the approximate size of 11 X 14, oval or rectangle. We need help from other volunteers for making the pillows. Please call Bobbie Monger at 770-361-9788 for additional information. This is a wonderful program to support parents and families who are grieving.

Our Chancel Choir with the accompaniment from our own Karen Harville on organ and Wendel Werner on piano will be joined by a string quartet of Knoxville Symphony Orchestra players to present a special musical Christmas service by Knoxville composer John Purifoy. The work is titled "Upon a Midnight Clear" and contains wonderful new carols, as well as familiar ones everyone will know and love to sing. The service is fully integrated with solos, readings, scripture, and meditations.

Broadway Hikers

Our next outing is on Saturday, December 15. Weather permitting, we’ll head for a short hike on the Chestnut Top Trail in the Smokies. The first ½ mile of the trail is steep but then it is more of a slight grade after that. After the hike, we’ll go for lunch in Wears Valley via the new “Missing Link” portion of the Foothills Parkway. Bring $$ for lunch. We’ll leave from the church at 9:30 a.m. Be sure to pack water, a snack and dress for the weather. Please make a reservation on the pew pads or through the church office so that we can let you know of any schedule adjustments.
Christmas Concert
Wendel Werner will present a special Christmas concert at Broadway UMC to benefit the Brown Food Pantry. Guest performances include Alan Eleazer, the Strange Relationship, Kimberly Watkins, the ensemble Swingtime Big Band, percussionist Lee Bell and a 15 member choir. This is an annual concert titled "Wendel Werner Destroys All Christmas Songs." Please come and support our Brown Food Pantry!
Longest Night Service

Held near the longest night of the year, this service reminds us of the light that Jesus brings in the midst of grief, depression, uncertainty, loneliness, stress or anything else that we experience as darkness. We'll light candles and remember that Jesus came especially for those dark days. Dec. 20 at 7:00 pm.
Christmas Eve Services

Make coming to church part of your family's Christmas celebration. There are three possibilities (come for one or all) on Monday, December 24. Two Candlelight Communion Services at 4:00 and 7:00 pm. Once again, we'll celebrate "Christmas in the Barn" at the Century Farm of Carolyn and Nick Hanson (relatives of Jim Warren) on 3539 Miser Station Rd., Louisville 37777. This service will be at 9:00 pm.
Give A Christmas Gift To The Puerto Rico Mission Team
The Christmas Eve offering this year has been designated by Church Council to fund Disaster Response, with priority given to the Puerto Rico mission trip February 23- March 2, 2019. Broadway is sponsoring a team of eight volunteers including Laura Rasor, Bill Ribble, Ken Taylor, Mary Margaret Eckhardt, Bob Eckhardt, Reid Evans, Alex Rios (from Maryville College), and Abel Carrico (chaplain at the Holston United Methodist Home for Children in Greeneville). Our team will be part of the ongoing rebuilding efforts in Puerto Rico following hurricane Maria in 2017. The work is coordinated by UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief) and the Methodist Church of Puerto Rico. Generous donations have already been made by the Outreach Committee and anonymous individuals. Your support on Christmas Eve will cover remaining team expenses and a donation toward construction material costs in Puerto Rico.
For further information, contact Mary Margaret Eckhardt at marymeckhardt613@gmail.com.
