Great turnout of youth for the Communion Caroling to our shut-ins.

One couple visited said, " These young people are so wonderful! (We) loved having them play and sing for us and bring us communion and prayer squares from Knitwits. So proud of them and so appreciative of them. God bless and many thanks!"

The Smoky Mountain District has been asked to put together 400 food buckets for the 2019 Holston Annual Conference Hands-On Mission Project. Broadway’s target is 40 buckets.

We welcome your donations of food and funds.

Each bucket will contain:

Canned ham (2-lb total) These are difficult to find and especially needed.
Powdered milk (10 oz. or less)
1 box butter flavor grits
1 box corn meal (4-5 lb)
1 box quick/instant oats (18 oz. or less)
1 bottle cooking oil (48 oz. or less)
1 box Splenda/sucralose (50 count or less)
Rice (2 lb total)
Dried beans (2 lb total)

Important: Remember that food items have expiration dates! Please check dates and make sure items do not expire until 2020 in order to cover transport time and have a useful life for the people in Zimbabwe.

All donations must be at the church by noon, Sunday, June 2, 2019.

Please place your food donations on the stage in the Fellowship Hall. Our buckets will be packed and delivered to the local collection point on Wednesday, June 6, 2018. In addition to food items, we must send $5.00 per bucket to cover packing and shipping. Monetary donations for food and shipping can be placed in the offering plate, annotated “Food Buckets.” A special offering will be collected on May 19.

Day In, Day Out Kick Off, Tuesday, May 14th at Noon with Wendel at the Piano!

Make your plans now to attend the kick off luncheon for the new Day In, Day Out program that will be on the 2nd Tuesdays of each month through November. May is a “Day In” and will be a pot luck/covered dish lunch at noon in the Fellowship Hall. Drinks will be furnished. After lunch a musical program will be presented by our own Wendel Warner. Wendel always delivers great entertainment! We will also present the calendar of events that have been scheduled for the remaining months through November. These programs are open to all adults, so come and bring a friend. Call or email the church office if transportation is needed.

Reservations may be made by the sign up sheets in the pew pads or by calling or emailing the church office, and are due by noon on Monday, May 13th.

Our next hike is scheduled for Saturday, May 18. The plan is to hike the Ace Gap Trail with the hopes of seeing the pink lady’s slippers and other wildflowers. This is an out and back hike so you can go for as long or short as you wish. The Trail is also relatively flat (for a Smokies Trail). Meet at the church at 9:30 a.m. Bring a packed lunch and plenty of water. Sign up through the church office so that we can let you know of any schedule adjustments.

Join the Fight Against Opioid Addiction

The 872 United Methodist congregations of Holston Conference are raising more than $100,000 to battle the opioid crisis that is tearing away at their communities in East Tennessee, Southwest Virginia, and North Georgia.

The deadline for Broadway’s offering is June 2 (can write a check to the church designated “Annual Conference Offering” or give online with the same designation). Our contributions will be taken to the Holston Annual Conference held June 9-12 in Lake Junaluska, North Carolina. Later this year, the funds will be distributed through grants to churches that want to fight drug addiction in their communities.
