Here are some pictures from our Friday Night Lights, Back The Blue. It was not as well attended as last month, but we had a lot of fun! Thanks so much to our volunteers, Richard, Art, Jean and Bob for helping tonight. We enjoyed our time together and I'm not sure who had more fun - the kids or us! -Blessings, Susan

Finally, the Broadway Book Club is going to get organized. We will meet after church on September 22 for a light lunch in the Fellowship Hall. Please let Tami know if you are able to attend so we can plan accordingly. This will be an opportunity to gather information about what you are interested in reading, when you want to meet and ideas on how to progress from here. If you are interested in the book club but can't attend this meeting, please let Debbie Taylor know at mommataylor1@aol.com. Looking forward to getting this started!

Broadway Next Luncheon
Broadway Next invites you to join us for conversation and a free lunch on September 15 following the 10:30 service.
Did you know? The 2019 General Conference strengthened the language in the Book of Discipline limiting the inclusion of LBGTQ+ persons in the United Methodist Church. The fallout from this decision is already affecting many churches and will impact the future of the UMC.
Join us on September 15 to learn where the UMC is now and how we got here. Broadway may be facing a decision about our future as United Methodists, and we want you to be informed about this issue.
Please contact the church office or sign up using the sheet in the pew pad to let us know you plan to attend. Nursery care will be available during the luncheon. If you have any questions, feel free to contact Mary Margaret Eckhardt at marymeckhardt613@gmail.com.

What is Broadway Next?

This group is composed of Broadway UMC members who were concerned by the decision of the 2019 General Conference. We joined together to educate ourselves about the issues facing the United Methodist Church and to aid Broadway in finding its path forward in this challenging climate.
We seek to provide opportunities for members and friends of Broadway United Methodist hurch to join in Spirit-led conversation and be informed about the issues facing the United Methodist Church, and specifically Broadway United Methodist Church, as related to General Conference actions regarding human sexuality and gender identity.
We covenant to treat all persons with respect as beloved by God and created in God’s image.
We covenant to speak from our own experience, listen patiently before formulating responses, and strive to understand the experience of others.
We covenant to choose our words with loving care by assuming the best in others, accurately portraying the views of others when speaking, avoiding generalizations about individuals and groups, and avoiding divisive and hurtful speech.
Our September 21st hike will start at the Ribble cabin in Mountain Homes and follow a well traveled trail that was once a road used by early settlers as a way to Cades Cove. After a couple of miles we reach the Park boundary and at the 2.5 mile mark we reach our destination, the Buchanan Cemetery where we will have a snack before returning. Along the way we will see signs of early settlement and logging. There are some minor creek crossings, but we likely will be able to rock-hop unless there have been recent rains. Overall, this is a relatively easy hike for the Smokies. The finish is back at the Ribble cabin in time for lunch. Bring your own lunch; Melanie and Bill will provide drinks and scrumptious dessert. We will meet at the church parking lot at 9:00 to carpool. Sign up through the church office so that we can let you know of any schedule adjustments.
Broadway Hikers is open to everyone, so come along!
Sunday Sept. 29th, Broadway Kids and their families will gather for a time of games, fellowship and food. Please sign-up through the church office, office@broadwayumc.net.

Also, would love to have a few youth come organize games for the little ones. If you are interested in helping contact jennifer_mcintyre@hotmail.com
