Drawing Straws
Acts 1:12-17; 21-26
This Sunday's Sermon...
The exhilaration of the big moment, the big season, the tragedy or the triumph always gives way to the reality that life goes on. In the case of the disciples, the mission was just beginning. For starters? Replace Judas. The holy number of twelve proved desirable for the team so they set out to secure a new leader. Should there be a world-wide search? Maybe an election?  How about we just draw straws. And draw straws they did. How will we start again?

Looking  Forward to Gathering for Worship
Do you remember the gospel song, "Workin' On a Building"?   Well, someone from Broadway should write a new hymn - "Workin' On A Plan"!
Our ministers, along with our COVID advisory team, have been  Zoom-meeting and email planning for several weeks, discerning the safest and most meaningful way to bring us together for worship AT church.  As pandemic restrictions ebb and flow toward a new normal, so do the plans for in-person worship.  But there are some facts that can be shared now:
  • Our first day back for in-person worship is Sunday, June 6 at 10:30 a.m. There will be one service. This format will continue each Sunday in June and is approved by our city's health department.
  • Worship will be held in the Outdoor Worship Area, following social distancing parameters.  Please bring lawn chairs or blankets for seating - the bench seating will be used for our worship team and musicians. Our property team is working hard to beautify and prepare the whole "amphitheater" for worship. It's looking amazing!
  • Masks or face coverings are requested while entering and exiting the worship area but can be removed, as comfortable, while seated in place. A limited supply of cloth face masks will be available, made by the loving hands of Broadway members.
  • There will be no adult, youth or children's Sunday School.
  • There will be no offering or provided communion. However, you may bring your own communion elements to share with family members when that sacred moment is honored in the service. An offering box will be available for donations.
  • While encouraged to utilize restrooms at home before coming to worship, the CLC restrooms will be open should need arise.
  • In the event of rain any Sunday in June, we will notify the community by Social Media and our website if in-person service is cancelled.
Virtual worship will continue each Sunday at 10:30 AM during June for those who prefer to avoid gatherings due to pandemic concerns. Such will be available on Broadway's social media platforms for viewing at your convenience. The in-person worship service will include most of the same elements present in the virtual service for sake of consistency, a beautiful hybrid of all of Broadway's worship styles.

Stay tuned for more details as we approach June 6 - it will be so good to see all of you again!

It's Time for the Stewardship Mic Drop...
Mic Drop - when you've said it all so well that you can't possibly communicate your ideas more clearly .  That's where we are in Broadway's Stewardship Emphasis.  To make our 2020-2021 budget truly reflect the resources on hand, our Stewardship Team is asking that you return your pledge card.  Whether a pledge is made for $5 a month or $500 a month, having pledge cards from our members helps us form a realistic budget.  Your pledge information helps all of our ministry areas continue to be wise stewards of each and every penny!
You can contact Church Administrator Ingrid Luckenbill by  email or at   445-5312.  Thank you for your support of Broadway's ministries!

Not This Year...
Broadway's Habitat Sale Canceled for 2020
There is just no easy way to put it - the Habitat Sale is canceled for 2020.
Due to ongoing pandemic, the logistics of Sale day and our concern for our volunteers and shoppers - there was just no way that the Sale could go forward.  While this is a disappointment for Mission & Outreach Ministry (MOM), our Habitat volunteers and shoppers - it is an economic blow to the local Show Me Central Habitat for Humanity chapter.  Over the years, Broadway's Habitat Sale has provided a major source of funding for the chapter's home-building mission.
If you would like to make a monetary donation to Habitat, you can do so through our online giving or simply mail a donation to the church earmarked for Habitat.  MOM will meet next week to look for ways that it can provide funding for the chapter.  More on that effort next week!
We remain committed to continuing the Habitat Sale in the future - mark April 10, 2021, on your calendar for the next Habitat Sale at Broadway!
Now More Than Ever...
Sunday Morning Servants Are Needed!
Our request for Sunday Morning Servants may seem a bit strange, given that our in-person worship has been suspended for now.  But, we know that things will change, regulations will be modified and eventually - we will have worship at and in church again!
Even as we look forward to that future Sunday, we also know that the way we do things will change to reflect the need to continue social distancing and careful sanitizing of "touch points" around the church.  This will require more helping hands on Sunday mornings - and we ask that you consider volunteering as an usher or welcomer.  It is entirely likely as we modify our Sunday morning procedures to maintain safety for all, that   more volunteers will be needed.
The new church year begins on July 1, 2020 and continues through June 30, 2021.  Ingrid maintains the schedules, and can customize your serving Sundays to avoid vacations or other special events.   You can  download a Volunteer Sign-Up to discover how you can help!
Contagious Love Devotionals Wrap on June 1
heart_vector.jpg
We hope that many of you have enjoyed the Contagious Love devotionals.  These meditations have been contributed by Broadway ministers, staff, Elders and Deacons as we made our way through this unusual and uncertain time of COVID.  Our final devotional in the series will be Monday, June 1, as we look forward to the new normal of social distancing and our slow walk toward in-person gatherings!
Worship (Virtually) With Us!
While no one imagined that we would be worship virtually this many Sundays, admit it - pajama church in your recliner at home isn't all bad!  As our advisory group examines how and when we can safely gather, our virtual church will continue.
Sunday worship premiers at 10:30 a.m. on Sundays; Wednesday worship begins at 5:30 p.m.  Each week's services are available on our Facebook page, through our Constant Contact list, through our Realm email list and on our YouTube Page.  By visitng our YouTube page, you can subscribe to receive new video offerings directly to our inbox.  And the great thing about video - you can watch the sermon (s) on your schedule!
