First Sunday of Advent

Say Yes:  Mary
Luke 1:26-38
From Mark....

"Let it be with me just as you said."  Mary's confident, "yes" is humbling. She wasn't  consenting to serving on a committee or signing up for a mission trip. With some kind of   amazing strength, she was saying, "Bring it on!  I'll serve in this extraordinary way." It is  hard to present her tone, of course, in the ancient text. There was surely uncertainty and sense of overwhelming mystery but she still says, "Yes." We call Mary brave. But what is  beyond brave? That's Mary. And thank God she said, " Yes."

Thanksgiving Holiday Office Schedule
The church office will be closed Wednesday, November 27-Friday, November 29. If you have an emergency, please leave a message at 445.5312; messages will be checked regularly.
But You DO Have Homework!
Kids - No Christmas Rehearsal on Dec. 1
Parents and kids - there will be no Christmas program rehearsal on Sunday, December 1.  BUT - Ms. Kay and Ms. Aimee need everyone to be "off script" for the Sunday, December 8 rehearsal.  This means that all of our actors should know their lines!  Please take the opportunity of the Thanksgiving break to practice, practice, practice!
Order Your Poinsettia! poinsettias.jpg
In your church mailbox and at the Welcome Center, you will find a V.I.P. - Very Important Paper - that will allow you to order a poinsettia for our annual Advent tradition of Poinsettia Sunday!  This year's Poinsettia Sunday will be December 8, and we need to help beautify Broadway with a multitude of these lovely plants!
Poinsettias are $6 and can be dedicated in celebration or in memory of a special person or event.  Orders are due by Monday, December 2.  If you have any questions, please contact   Ingrid.
More Cards Are Up...
Visit Our Tree of Hope!
The Tree of Hope is a favorite Broadway tradition and Advent ministry!  The Tree is up in Fellowship Hall, decorated with the names of children in Boone County and Columbia who need a little help this Christmas.  Just take one of the cards (or as many as you'd like!) and sign it out in the log.  Return the gifts for your child, with the card attached, by December 8.  If you have questions, please contact  Debby
Be A Part Of A Delicious Broadway Tradition girl_by_christmas_tree.jpg
Of all the Sundays in a year, Goodie Sunday is definitely the sweetest!  On Sunday, December 15, we are all invited to bring a treat to share with our Broadway family.  Your contribution to the Goodie Sunday table can be savory or sweet, a old family recipe or a tempting treat you bought at      Hy-Vee!  Whatever you bring will add to the festivities!  Fellowship Ministry will provide hot cider and some special decorations for the day.  And remember that we will likely have many guests at Broadway on December 15 to see the Children's Christmas Program - help us fill the tables!
If you would like more information or would like to help monitor the tables on Goodie Sunday, please contact  Dixie Fisher.
Seasoned Spirits Christmas Lunch christmas_party.jpg
Broadway's Seasoned Spirits group (formerly 60+) will close out the year with a Christmas Luncheon on Monday, December 16, at Noon in our Fellowship Hall.  The special guests for this luncheon will be the MotherSingers, who will perform a holiday program.
The lunch menu includes ham, scalloped potatoes, veggies, cranberry sauce and pumpkin bars.  Reservations for the lunch are due by December 11 and you can pay for lunch at the door ($10).  You are welcome to bring your own lunch and enjoy the program with friends!  For questions, please contact  Marcia Walker.
Caregivers' Support Group
The hectic pace of the holiday season can be especially difficult for those who are caring for a loved one.  If you would like to have some time to share with other caregivers, please be a part of the Caregivers Support Group on Monday, December 2 at Noon.  This group is facilitated by David and Patsy Dalton, who can share what they learned from their own journey as caregivers. This group meets on the first Monday of each month in Broadway conference room.  If you have questions, please contact  David and Patsy.
Red Cross Blood Drive December 8 Red Cross
Some gifts are too precious to put a price on.
Please consider giving the precious gift of life during Broadway's Red Cross Blood Drive on Sunday, December 8, from 9 AM - 1 PM in the Christian Life Center.  Our goal is to collect 17 units of blood for the Red Cross - which may not seem like a lot - but those units can be used to used in ways to serve many more than 17 people.  To assist the Red Cross staff, you can now register to give blood online by visiting   Red Cross Blood Donations.  Please be sure to bring a photo ID and/or your Red Cross Blood Donor card on December 8.
Salvation Army Bell Ringing Red kettle
You've seen the red kettles out front at various retail outlets, but the real ringing doesn't start until the Broadway ringers are in the house!  We have our regular "spot" at the West Broadway Hy-Vee (east entrance near Starbucks), and will continue with our Friday and Saturday time frame.  Ringing dates are December 6-7;13-14; and 20-21 from 10 AM-8 PM.  You can sign up yourself, your family or a group by contacting Don Harter  via email or by phone at 445.3258.
SERV Sale Debuts December 8
Looking for a unique gift for someone special?  Mission & Outreach Ministry (MOM) is bringing the SERV Sale back to Fellowship Hall on Sunday, December 8, and Sunday, December 15!  Out tables will be full of hand-crafted fair trade items - from baby gifts to baskets to book ends! The tables will open at 8:45 and remain open end Sunday until after 11:15 worship.
Protecting Everyone's Right to Vote ...
Suppressed Screened & Panel Discussion
The right to vote should be a given for all United States citizens, but decades after the passage of the landmark Voting Rights Act, voting for some U.S. citizens remains a challenge.
Suppressed: The Fight to Vote is a documentary dealing with the struggle to vote for many citizens.  The documentary will be presented at Broadway on Thursday, December 12, at 7 PM, in the Loft.  Following the film, there will be a panel discussion with Boone County Clerk Brianna Lennon, Mary Ratliff from the NAACP and Marilyn McLeod from the League of Women Voters.
Please contact  Don Day with any questions.  You can download an event flyer  here.
