Wide Open Spaces - Is God A Belief System?
Scripture:  Romans 5:1-2
This Sunday's Sermon...
As we work so hard to break down barriers of fear of others, we now are taught to keep a distance, wear a disguise and assume everyone has a disease. While such is necessary to protect the most vulnerable among us, it is hard to imagine the long-term effects of this season of COVID on every aspect of our lives. One would hope that such a season might bring humanity together... rallying against a common foe. Instead, our division grows. One woman's nineteen word blog sums it up: "I hate you. You hate me. We hate them. They hate us. What does it take to change this?"  The truth? Many of our belief systems reinforce this hatred - this sense of in and out, right and wrong, good and bad. We've created a doctrine and called it God. But is God really a belief system of tight boundaries and 'thou shalt not's'? If your answer is "No," then you just may follow God into some "wide open spaces of grace and glory."
Worshiping Together - Safely
Thank you to the volunteers and our COVID team who are keeping us all socially distanced, sanitized and masked during this unique time in our city, state, nation and world!
Please review the procedures here.

Please Note:

In the event of rain, our outdoor worship will be canceled.

If we must cancel, a "drive-through" blessing will be offered by Mark and other worship team members.  You will have plenty of time to get home and tune in to Virtual Worship at 10:30 AM.

Keeping You Informed...
Intercessory Prayer Team Forming...
11) For I know the thoughts that I think towards you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. 12) Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you.13) And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.
 Jeremiah 29:11-13
There is a growing need for intercessory prayer, as Broadway members and their families face tough issues daily. Our members and their loved ones are also affected by events in our city, county, state and nation that have an impact on lives, health and income.  These larger issues need our prayer as well.
Prayer is our most powerful tool.  We know that each prayer is heard; but there is strength in community!  If you have a heart for prayer and a would like to join us, we welcome your voice.  The following days and times are offered:
  • Wednesday, 9:00-9:45 AM,
  • Wednesday, 6:00-7:15 PM,
  • Thursday, 6:30-7:15 PM.
Please call Cheryl Moore, 573-999-5727, or Dixie Fisher, 474-3417, with your time preference or for more information.
 Thanks be to God,
Caregivers Support Group Meets September 14
Caregiving during COVID can be overwhelming.  The Caregivers Support Group welcomes you to join them, via Zoom for a meeting on Monday, September 14 at Noon.
Perhaps you are caring for a loved one and never felt comfortable leaving them to join the in-person meetings.  Now is your opportunity to join the group, be supported by and learn from other caregivers.  If you would like to receive the Zoom invitation, contact David and Patsy Dalton by email or call them at 573-356-6036.
Prayers for our Teachers, Parents and Students
2020 has been anything but "normal" and the beginning of the school year has fallen right in line with the rest of the year!  Recently, Mission and Outreach Ministry assembled "thank you" gift bags for our Partners in Education at the Center for Early Learning North.  The bags were much appreciated by the staff there - and we hope that they can feel our support for them each time they enjoy a surprise from the gift bags!
Teachers, students and parents all need our prayers this year.  Please lift all of them up during this difficult and uncertain time.
CROP Walk Is September 20...
Walk Where You Are for CROP Hunger Walk! CROP
How do we do the 2020 CROP Hunger Walk on September 20 and follow the rules of Covid World?  Very simple - do a "web walk" or walk where you are!
The CROP Walk supports local food pantries and food programs in Columbia, such as the Loaves and Fishes Soup Kitchen, Russell Chapel Food Pantry and more.  Funds are also dedicated to solving hunger around the world through our partners in Church World Services.  You can participate as a walker or simply donate to support Broadway walkers by visiting the CROP website.
Donations can also be dropped off on Sunday, September 20, at Broadway - the CROP team will use our Narthex drive-up to safely collect donations from 12-3 PM.!
The Disasters of 2020 Just Keep Coming...
One question that you should not ask about events in 2020 is "What else could possibly happen?"  Just wait a few days.
In the midst of COVID World, we have had natural disasters to deal with as well.  We have had the hurricanes.  We have had the Iowa windstorms.  And don't forget the earthquake in Florida - yes, Florida!
And now there are devastating wildfires in California, which show no signs of abating.  If you would like to make a special over-and-above offering to support disaster relief through Week of Compassion, the online giving tab will remain on Realm.  Your gifts to Week of Compassion are used where those funds are needed most - to support the work of on-the-ground agencies and provide assistance to those displaced by natural disasters.  Our help is needed now more than ever!
Zoom at Noon Returns on Monday, September 14

After a break for the Labor Day holiday, Zoom at Noon will return next Monday, September 14, at Noon!  Pastor Mark will be available over the noon hour for conversation and reflection - the casual and important moments that we miss on Sunday morning!  Just click on the image and join the conversation.
