Ecclesiastes 4:9-12
From Mark....
It has been said that "Life change happens in circles, not rows." Corporate worship in the  rows of a sanctuary of any kind - among the trees to soaring ceilings in Broadway's own, is  powerful and essential to our life of faith. But the grit of faith is found when we gather in  circles, eye to eye, heart to heart to pray, study, and share our lives. Are you a part of a  relational group? Do you have a group of people who feel free to ask, "Are you okay?" and won't accept "I'm fine" as an answer? At some point in our lives, we all need some  Somebodies. Waiting until that time finds us is too late. Be relationally driven now - it just  might save your life.

Our Sermon series...  DRIVEN
The 8 Keys of Discipleship
One definition of driven is to be "relentlessly compelled." Humans are relentlessly compelled by, and for, many things: greed, addiction, success, hunger, love. Like most things, such drive can be channeled for our good health, what we might describe spiritually as interior freedom. On the flip side, when we are driven by realities outside of the Spirit, we may quickly find ourselves in challenging, if not dangerous, situations. As students and educators find their way into the beginning of another school year, brushing up on their values and focus when it comes to learning, may the church also reclaim her focus on the very things that drive us forward in faith; grounded, inspired, and moving toward the vision God has for us. Join us at 8:00, 9:00, or 11:15 a.m. as we consider Broadway's Eight Keys of Discipleship - the driving force of our spiritual health.
--Pastor Mark
Coming Up...
Caregivers Support Group
If you are caring for a loved one in your own home, in their home or even if they are in a care facility - you know how physically and emotionally draining that caring can be.  The Caregivers' Support Group meets on the first Monday of each month to give caregivers the chance to talk with others who understand.  The next meeting will be next Monday, October 7, at Noon, in the Conference Room.  This group is open to all Broadway members and the community.  Please email  Patsy and David Dalton for more information.
Corn & Sunflower Maze Trip
Junior Youth Fellowship (JYF) and Youth Group are joining forces on Sunday, October 13, for a fun visit to to MU's South Farm and its Corn and Sunflower Maze!  Everything starts with a quick lunch in Fellowship Hall at 12:15 p.m., and then leaders will be loading the buses for the drive to South Farm.  If you child plans to attend, please contact  Aimee or  Taby so that we can have  enough seats for everyone!
Sponsor Our Sanctuary Flowers cornucopia-flowers.jpg
Each Sunday, Broadway's Chancel is enhanced with a beautiful floral arrangement.  What you may not realize is that our members sponsor each Sunday's flowers!
You can sponsor an arrangement in celebration or in memory of a special person or event.  The arrangements are crafted by Kent's Floral Gallery and cost $35.  Look for the Flower Chart in the Narthex this Sunday!
Rocheport Christian Rummage Sale Rocheport Church
Broadway and Rocheport Christian Churches have a special relationship, sharing worship and musicians on a regular basis - so we wanted to share this news!  Our friends at Rocheport will be holding a Rummage Sale on Saturday, October 12, from 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.  Donations to the Sale will be accepted on October 10 & 11, from noon-7:00 p.m.  All proceeds will benefit the ministry of Rocheport Christian Church.
A Busy October for Our Seasoned Spirits
Seasoned Spirits had its inaugural event on Monday - lunch with Pastor Mark - and 109 were in attendance! Next month is looking good, too!
October will be busy with three opportunities for fun and fellowship:
  • Tuesday, October 15, at 1:00 p.m. - A Tour of Upscale Resale
  • Friday, October 25 - A day trip to Clark/Sturgeon Amish Community
  • Monday, October 28, at Noon - Lunch with program on The Aging Brain.  RSVP required; cost of lunch is $7.
If you plan to attend any or all of these activities, please be sure that you RSVP by the requested date.  You can download the schedule for more information.
Meet and Greet Date Added!
The Meet and Greet gatherings with Mark and Carrie Briley have been so popular, that some of our hosts have run out of room!
To give everyone the opportunity to talk with the Brileys, a Monday, November 11, gathering at the home of Roger and Dixie Fisher has been added.  This gathering is scheduled for 6:30-8:30 p.m.
Please take a look at  the  Briley Gathering Schedule to find the day and time that works for you.  Please note - you will need to RSVP to the Hosts of the Gathering you choose.
Trunk or Treat  Is Coming!
October is just a few days away - and the preparations are already underway for our October 27 Trunk or Treat!  Trunks will be needed to make this fun afternoon a success, and you can sign up in Fellowship Hall to let Miss Aimee know that you'll attend.  If you can't attend, but would like to help, donations of candy and small bottles of water are appreciated!
The after-candy-collection Grilled Cheese and Tomato Soup dinner returns this year as well!  So why not set up a trunk in the west lot, have a great time seeing all of the kids and their costumes and then stay for supper?  Sounds like it's treats for all!
