Board Passes Motion Proposing Exciting New Changes for Broadway Worship

In a unanimous vote on Tuesday evening, February 27, the board approved a motion to plan for and initiate two reimagined services, taking inspiration from traditional and contemporary worship and our current unified service. The motion also calls for renewing the 8:00 am Daybreak.

Service is moving toward live-streaming one or more of our services in their entirety.

Plans are in place to renew the Daybreak Service at 8 am in the Loft on Palm Sunday, March 24. The service will return to its outdoor location when weather permits. Plans are also underway for two World Cafés during which members will be invited to contribute to creating the two reimagined services. See next week’s weekly for dates and sign-ups for these opportunities, which will be led by David Shirey, Broadway’s new Music Director Audra Sergel, and Associate Music Director Kristi Larsen.

Broadway’s New Music Director – Audra Sergel

We are pleased to announce Broadway’s new Music Director, Audra Sergel. Audra’s CV is attached. Audra will commence her music ministry with us on Monday, March 11.

Her first Sunday in worship will be March 17. After Pastor Terry Overfelt’s retirement, Kristi Larsen will step up to the position of Associate Director of Music. She and Audra have job descriptions that complement each other, evoking and sharing each other’s talents. Together, they will serve Broadway well. Audra brings experience, creativity, a robust work ethic, a network with musicians in Columbia marked by mutual respect, and a love for worship and nurturing and conducting ensembles and choirs of every shape and size. You will find her to be approachable, authentic, and engaging. See next week’s weekly for a fuller introduction to Audra.

You are invited to join us for Lenten Vespers and Kids' Yoga on March 6th, 13th, and 20th from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm.

Come and join your church family for mid-week rest and resilience. We will start with the 'rest' portion in the Loft from 5:30 to 6 pm. During this time, we will be engaged in contemplative, guided prayer. After that, we will move to the Fellowship Hall for a shared meal, followed by a Broadway member's testimony on how they experienced resilience through adversity. Kids can also participate in the event by joining the cinema room at 5:30 pm. They will be learning about rest and resilience through movement.

Mark D. Anderson Worship Guest on Sunday, March 10

The President and CEO of our Disciples of Christ’s National Benevolent Association, Mark D. Anderson will be our guest on Sunday, March 10. Meet Austin View at the next Seasoned Spirits Luncheon on March 11

We want to fellowship with you. Our next luncheon get-together will be on Monday, March 11, 2024. The deadline to register is Thursday, March 7, 2024. Please click HERE to register for the luncheon.

Austin View will be presenting. He is the Executive Director of Show-Me Central Habitat for Humanity. He grew up just north of Columbia in a small town called Harrisburg. After receiving his degree in Business Administration, he moved to Chicago to work as a Human Resource Manager. Six years ago, he took the opportunity to move back home and take the reigns of Habitat from his father. Austin and his wife Abagael enjoy being outdoors, Chiefs’ football, and doing home improvement projects. Their time is spent caring for their 1 & 1/2-year-old, Teddy. Teddy has been on Broadway’s prayer list and is doing great. He still has some special needs but is the happiest baby who loves to laugh. Austin and his wife look forward to attending a service at Broadway when Teddy is stronger.

Broadway’s Affirming LGBTQIA Persons and Families Action Team seeks more members.
