Advent II
Message:   Children's Christmas Program
Scripture:  Luke 3: 2b-6
Children's Christmas Program Is December 9
It just doesn't get much cuter than kids in angel costumes - and there will be plenty of them on Sunday, December 9, at our 9:00 and 11:15 a.m. worship!  Our production will be another original from Kay Cook, so it is sure to be a creative and witty perspective on the themes of the Christmas Season!
A Special Sunday for Special Music at 9:00
It is always special when Maria Trevor and her harp join us for worship - and this Sunday will be doubly special at our Traditional Worship service!  Maria will be joined by harpist Judy Elliott at the 9:00 service for special music -so if you normally attend the 11:15 worship, come early this Sunday for a harp duo at 9:00 and stay for Good Sunday samples at 10:10!
This Sunday in Fellowship Hall
Get Your Gooodie On This Sunday!! girl_by_christmas_tree.jpg
What is Goodie Sunday?  Well, the name sort of says it all - Broadway members and friends are encouraged to bring a favorite Christmas treat to share with their Broadway family!  Fellowship Ministry will decorate the Fellowship Hall tables and provide hot apple cider as an added treat!  The goodie-ness goes on all morning long!
Final Sunday for SERV Sale!
For those on your Christmas list who present a challenge when it comes to finding the perfect gift - the SERV Sale will come to your assistance on December 2 and 9 in Broadway's Fellowship Hall!  The SERV Sale brings many of the beautiful, hand-crafted items from the Global Market (inside Community Methodist Church) to Broadway shoppers just in time for Christmas giving.   Stop by the Fellowship Hall on either or both Sundays in December and find the perfect, hand-crafted git for someone special!
Time to Return Gifts for Tree of Hope
Please remember to return your gifts for the Tree of Hope this Sunday!  No need to wrap - just bring your gifts, with the Tree of Hope card attached, back to Fellowship Hall.  Early next week, your gifts will be delivered to schools and organizations in Columbia for children in need!  If you have questions, please contact Debby via  email.
Poinsettias Arrive for Sunday!
With our Children's Christmas Program in the Sanctuary this Sunday, poinsettias will be on display in the Narthex and Fellowship Hall.  If  you ordered a poinsettia, you can take yours home following worship this Sunday!
Celebrating Advent
Remembering Our Staff at Christmas gift
Staff gifts...A special thank you recognizing their commitment
Thanks to those special people who make ministry at Broadway a place to grow spiritually.  This is Ministerial Appreciation month (according to Christian Church Foundation) and a time to say thanks for the visits, prayers, messages and candor of Nick and Terry.  Ingrid assures that every group has access to meeting spaces that are comfortable, and finances follow protocols.  Debbie serves as liaison for Broadway at many community outreach efforts besides our own.  Jay does set up and take down for almost daily changes besides the routine cleaning.  Aimee and Taby chase down the needs for youth groups and change furniture and AV to meet different needs.  The list continues with Nollie, Deb, John, Leslie and others.  This year has required additional adjustments from our staff and the need to do more (emails at all hours of the night are not uncommon).
All of us know the worship, ministries and upkeep of Broadway is a result of the commitment of our clergy and staff ministering to us and for us.  One way to recognize them is through the staff gift in the Advent season.  We can say thanks by placing a well-deserved contribution in the offering or office mailbox marked "Staff Gift" for those who shepherd us in so many ways.  Please join us in saying "well done, thou good and faithful servants".
John Poehlmann
Chair of the Board & Congregation
All donations for staff gifts should be turned into the Church Administrator, Ingrid Luckenbill, by Monday, December 17.
Soups Needed for Christmas Eve Lunch
Since its beginning nine Christmases ago, our Morning Worship at 11:00 a.m. with a Soup and Sandwich Luncheon following, has tripled in attendance!  Fellowship Ministry will provide the sandwich makings, but asks for your help to provide delicious homemade soup for the lunch.  Cookies and other desserts are needed as well.
If you can bring a soup or a plate of cookies, please contact Dixie Fisher, 474.3417, or by  email.
A Ringing Treat This Saturday!
If you plan to head to West Broadway Hy-Vee next Saturday morning, be sure to enter on the east side (near Starbucks and Market Grill)!  Members of our Chancel Bell Choir will be ringing from 11:00 a.m.-Noon and would love to say hello!
If you would like to ring for the Red Kettle, see the article below!
Ringing for the Red Kettle!
Red kettle
Once again, Don Harter will coordinate our Salvation Army Red Kettle Ringers for Christmas 2018.  And once again, Don has reserved a space for us at "our" Hy-Vee on West Broadway...and we are even close to Starbuck's!!
Broadway members and friends can ring on Friday and Saturday, beginning November 30.  If you would like to reserve an hour or two (or more) for you, your family, your Sunday morning class or small group, contact Don by  email or by phone at 445.3258.
Coming Up...
Broadway Life May Be Delay
Due to the closing of federal office on December 5, the Broadway Life print newsletter may be delayed.  But, never fear!  You can click  here and read it now, with no wait at all!  And just an fyi - you can always download a copy of the most recent newsletter in the "Quick Links to News & More" sidebar (on the left) that is included in every Broadway Weekly e-news.
A Good Time to Review Your Pledge
As we near the end of 2018, it is a good time to review your pledged giving to Broadway.  You can access your giving through our Realm online system, or contact Church Administrator Ingrid Luckenbill for information.
Giving Statements for the 2018 tax year will be available in mid-January.  If you have an email on file with the church office, your statement will be emailed to you.  If no email is available, your statement will be printed and placed in your church mailbox.
Sponsor Our Sanctuary Flowers flower-bouquet.jpg
Each Sunday, our Sanctuary is graced with a beautiful floral arrangement on our Chancel table.  You can sponsor a Sunday arrangement in celebration or in memory of a special person or event in your life.  Look for the 2019 Flower Chart in the Narthex, and choose your Sunday. Each Sunday's arrangement cost $35, and you will receive a reminder from the church office approximately one month prior to your selected date.  Your Sunday gift will be noted in the church worship bulletin, along with your dedication.  Following worship, the arrangement is re-purposed by CareLink's Flower Ministry, and divided into smaller arrangements for our home-bound and recovering members.
