Brockton The Charity Guild

High Fives for The Charity Guild

September is Hunger Action Month, and The Charity Guild has a fun and creative way for you to get involved. It’s called “High Five for $5.” A $5 donation helps to buy enough food for 10 meals for TCG’s Food Pantry. For the rest of September, you can take action and help Brockton fight hunger by donating $5, sharing a “High Five” photo on Facebook, and tagging The Charity Guild, your friends and family in the post.

A nonprofit organization and member agency of The Greater Boston Food Bank, The Charity Guild began their mission to combat food insecurity in 1971. Today, TCG serves over 23,500 people every year, increasing community access to healthy and nutritious foods through their Food Pantries and Home Delivery Program for seniors and the homebound. The TCG main Food Pantry is located at 501 Main St, Brockton MA and is open Tues 10a - 12p, Wed 1p - 2:30p, and Thurs 10a - 12p.

Brockton FD High Fives for $5

This September’s “High Five for $5” initiative has already drummed up buzz. The Brockton Fire Department took to Facebook to share High Fives next to Fire Engine Five, tagging and nominating the City of Brockton, Brockton Police Department, and Brockton Veterans’ Services to participate in the trend too. Additionally, Brockton Farmers Market shared FB photos from the last Friday Market participating in “High Five for $5” and spreading awareness about food insecurity and TCG’s mission to the community. It is through this collective participation in Hunger Awareness Month and through the generous donations and volunteer work of the community that The Charity Guild is able to provide for those in need.

To contribute to The Charity Guild’s mission, make a donation in goods or funds, volunteer to help, or learn more about how TCG is fighting food insecurity in Brockton, visit their website www.thecharityguild.org.

Victory For Families

Victory For Families (VFF) is a nonprofit committed to the empowerment and welfare of single mothers within the community. The organization serves to provide single mothers with the resources they need to achieve educational goals, career opportunities, housing stability, and financial security. Some of their offered services include personalized, one to one coaching sessions, interactive seminars and workshops, and financial aid in the form of grants and scholarships. From monetary assistance to personal mentorship, Victory For Families works hard to create a strong community of support for single moms.

VFF was founded by Veronica Thompson, a third-generation immigrant from Brockton. Having experienced life as a single mother herself, Thompson created the nonprofit to help others overcome the challenges she faced. Through the hard work of the VFF Board and community, Victory For Families is able to offer single mothers vital resources, to foster knowledge and the development of necessary skills, and to build security for families in need. As Thompson says, “Your support is a lifeline, empowering single mothers to rewrite their stories, reclaim their strength, and build a brighter future for themselves and their children.”

Fri, Oct 18th from 8p - 11p, VFF will be hosting their Inaugural Fundraiser Gala at Venue 727, 340 Warren Ave Brockton. This is a celebration of the hard work and perseverance of single mothers in the community, and you too can show your support by joining VFF for an evening of dining, dancing, and fun. Tickets are on sale at givebutter.com/4CTWRu and donations of any size make a great difference in supporting the group’s ongoing initiatives. Additionally, Victory For Families is actively looking for sponsors, so if you or someone you know might be interested, contact them at info@victoryforfamilies.org. Sponsorships can be customized to fit your company’s marketing and philanthropic goals.

Changes

“It’s only after you’ve stepped outside your comfort zone that you begin to change, grow, and transform.” ~Roy T. Bennett

“Yesterday I was clever, so I wanted to change the world. Today I am wise, so I am changing myself.” ~ Rumi

“The only way that we can live, is if we grow. The only way that we can grow is if we change. The only way that we can change is if we learn. The only way we can learn is if we are exposed. And the only way that we can become exposed is if we throw ourselves out into the open. Do it. Throw yourself.” ~ C. JoyBell C.

Love can change a person the way a parent can change a baby- awkwardly, and often with a great deal of mess.”~ Lemony Snicket

“And that is how change happens. One gesture. One person. One moment at a time.”~ Libba Bray

Are we ready, are we prepared, for the next great change? ~ Jacquie
