Welcome to our very first newsletter!
It's been an exciting year in Bromo since we officially became a state-designated Arts & Entertainment District on July 1, 2012! While we continue to build our identity - with your support - we want to share with you highlights from the past year and some awesome upcoming events in the district.
*In Fall 2012, Articulate: Baltimore brought local, regional & international artists to Bromo to activate vacant spaces with transformative large-scale murals
*Everyman Theatre moved to Bromo into a new gorgeous, renovated, state-of-the-art space
*The City and Baltimore Office of Promotion & The Arts (BOPA) kicked off and are currently implementing a project to install a few distinctive, artist-designed crosswalks
*The amazing Baltimore Bike Party partnered with Bromo and Downtown Westside for their 80's-themed June ride, which culminated in a delicious meal at Lexington Market
*We, in collaboration with BOPA, Station North & Highland A&E districts, received funding from ArtPlace America to produce the Transit: Creative Placemaking in Baltimore project, which we're currently working hard to plan
We are also thrilled to now have a Director! In October 2013, we hired the inaugural Director of Bromo Arts & Market Center Initiatives, Priya Bhayana. Employed by the Downtown Partnership of Baltimore, Priya will advance the interests of arts venues, retailers, and other key stakeholders within the Bromo Arts District and the Market Center Merchants Association. Having a person fully dedicated to this effort significantly increases our capacity to work with and support all of the district's great people & organizations. You can e-mail Priya at pbhayana@dpob.org.
We'll use this newsletter to send you info about events in the District and what we, as an organization, are up to. So, please, let us know if you have an event or opportunity you want us to share.
