Judge Cynthia Davis ‘98 loved to watch Divorce Court and The People’s Court while growing up. Cynthia, who goes by Cindy, recalls enjoying those shows during her summer breaks while she was attending the Lower School at BA. Although those dramatic shows gave Cindy her interest in law, she insists that she is nothing like Judge Judy in the courtroom. I hope she is right, as Judge Judy once said in her courtroom, "I eat morons like you for breakfast. You're going to be crying before this is over."
After graduating from Brookfield Academy in 1998, Cindy double majored in Economics and French at DePauw University. Upon graduation from DePauw, Cindy attended Marquette University's Law School, earning her Juris Doctor in 2006.

Cindy is currently a Milwaukee County Circuit Court Judge. Although Cindy often sees people at their darkest moments, she values the opportunity to live the Lower School prayer, which she recited so often, by treating every person who walks into her courtroom with kindness and respect.
Brookfield Academy is home for Cindy. She writes,
BA is a legacy left by my grandparents and other founding families who had the fortitude and vision to do things differently despite outside resistance and skepticism. The BA experience has taught me that I don’t have to accept the status quo and that, if I want to see change, I must step up and “be the change.”
Cindy credits the critical thinking skills she developed at BA to her success in law. The critical, independent thinking she learned has helped her make decisions in her cases.
In October, Cindy published an article titled Everything I Needed to Learn in Life I Learned in Treatment Court. Part of that article describes a moment in Cindy’s life where she had an option to switch from domestic violence court to treatment court. Cindy made the decision to switch and wants others to know that change will feel uncomfortable. When asked what advice Cindy would give to those looking for a change professionally, she noted,
My advice to people thinking about a career path change is that change, regardless of whether it is much needed and desired, always feels uncomfortable. If you wait to make a change until you feel 100% ready, you will never do it. What has worked for me so far is to pray about the change and, depending on the answer, to step out in faith and trust.
Cindy is a current board member at BA and is continuing to help Brookfield Academy grow and prosper, just like her grandfather did in 1962.

Thank you to all Brookfield Academy alums who have served or are currently serving our country as a member of the Armed Forces. One of BA's many military alums, Jeff Rauh '80, visited BA to talk about his experience in the Navy and how proud he is of his son, Timothy Rauh '21, and of other BA graduates for making the choice to attend one of the five United States Service Academies.

Upper School Play Highlights Weekend
|
|
The US play sold out all three shows over the weekend bringing in a total of 408 audience members. The play, Puffs, an improv-based comedy that riffs on Harry Potter from the perspective of the Hufflepuff house, not the Gryffindor house, was a great success. There were 13 cast members who worked tirelessly to make the three shows go smoothly. Wes Schultz ‘97, Executive Director of the Arts at BA, applauded the cast and crew on a job well done.
I was so proud of what the kids pulled off in terms of the technical elements of the show: pace, clarity, special effects, and landing joke after joke. But I was most proud of the sense of self-acceptance and community that these kids built together. It was probably one of the most tight-knit casts I've witnessed over my last 10 years at BA. -Wes Schultz '97

Wes, who produced his 28th show this past weekend, shared how thankful he is to work with the students. Over the weeks of practicing, the students learned teamwork, confidence in public speaking, problem solving, toughness, and a passion for beauty. Wes hopes and believes these kids will take this experience with them to college and beyond.

You might blame the Packers 13-7 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on Aaron Rodgers not playing, Mason Crosby missing two field goals, or even the special teams unit literally dropping the ball. You can't, however, blame the six Brookfield Academy alums who made the trip to Kansas City to cheer the Packers on. These six BA friends have attended a Packers away game together three years now, with COVID-19 disrupting last year's plans.
