Varsity Volleyball

The girls volleyball team had a busy week. The team was introduced to Brookfield Academy’s new varsity girls volleyball coach, me, Anne Slattery. I bring many years of training to the program, lots of enthusiastic ideas, and a new vision. I am very excited to work with the returning coaches and learn more about the program and culture at Brookfield Academy.

The first scrimmage of the season took place on Saturday, August 20, at The Prairie School. Varsity performed well, implemented many new disciplines and won two of the three games.

In addition, JV1 and JV2 combined to form one team and competed very well in two matches. Good fundamentals, court movement, and team chemistry is brewing!

The first day of school was Tuesday, and the girls volleyball teams had a great team building practice. They started out with some ball control games, intermixed the three levels and played a modified game of baseball on the courts, and then wrapped up practice with games of Minute to Win it! Games included stacking three golf balls (two groups had success), stacking five apples (one group had success), catching 12 pencils (one group succeeded), sorted M&M’s with a straw (much success), and wiggling an Oreo Cookie from forehead to mouth in a minute (of course many succeeded and enjoyed the cookie).

Next up will be three great days of team training in preparation for our first home game set to take place on Monday, August 29! I hope to see the students, parents, and faculty in the stands!

Girls Varsity Tennis

The girls varsity tennis team is off to a 2-3 start this season. This year, the team has a mixture of old and new faces. Four student-athletes return from the varsity lineup a year ago, while multiple JV players have made the leap to varsity. The team also consists of many freshmen that are dedicated to getting better at tennis.

The four varsity returners all have a perfect 5-0 record to start the year. Lexi Kass and Laurette Blanchard are paired together at #1 doubles while Simran Bhatia and Riya Singh are paired together at #2 doubles. Their wins came against Kenosha St. Joseph's, Big Foot, Edgewood, Regis, and Germantown.

The team is set to face Martin Luther on Thursday at Wirth Park at 4pm.

Lexi Kass and Simran Bhatia were named to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel's top 37 girls high school tennis players in Wisconsin list this past week. You can read the full article here.

The new tennis center is nearing completion. I encourage you to buy a brick to support the tennis programs. You can find additional information on how to purchase a brick here. The deadline to buy a brick is quickly approaching.

Varsity Football

Brookfield Academy fell short to University School of Milwaukee 35-25 in its home opener on Friday, August 19. USM's depth proved to be too much as the Wildcats pulled away late in the game.

BA's offense was able to move the ball well and tallied over 100 yards rushing and 200 yards passing. Unfortunately, two costly BA turnovers led to points for USM. Senior quarterback Alex Dieck threw two touchdowns to Colton Green, who ended the night with over 100 yards receiving. Sophomore Jordan Dieck also contributed with two receptions for 80 yards.

BA's defense was led by senior Aaron Strange. Strange tallied eight total tackles. The rest of the defense showed flashes of productivity, but knows that there is room for improvement.

BA travels to Stevens Point on Friday to take on Pacelli Catholic. Kickoff is set for 6 pm.
