Swim

The winter swim season kicked off for the swim team on Saturday, December 10, at the Barracuda Invitational. The team finished in 8th place with 92 points.

Highlights from the meet include a pair of new school records in the 200 medley relay and the 200 free relay. Seniors Adrian Bellido, Rishi Guntur, and Andrew Li were joined by freshman Niall Parkins to set a new school record of 1:47.75, downing the old school record of 1:48.67 established in 2015. Later in the meet, the same team members swam to a time of 1:38.10 in the 200 free relay. This eclipsed the old record of 1:39.78 set in 2017.

In the individual events, the team was led by senior Adrian Bellido, who notched a first place victory in the 100 individual medley with a time of 53.12. In Adrian's other event, the 200 individual medley, he was the runner-up. Continuing, freshman Niall Parkins had a 10th place finish in the 50 backstroke and a 16th place finish in the 100 backstroke.

Also noteworthy, for the first time in memory, BA fielded multiple relays in a single event. Our "B" 200 free relay, consisting of Aidan Canga, Shri Kannan, Shariq Ahmad, and Vasu Guda, notched a 16th place finish in their event.

Special thanks to the Bellido family for hosting a carbo-cram leading up to the event. The team is building tremendous chemistry as they embark on a season where our goal is to really put this program and team on the map for BA.

We will be stepping into a new block of training that will carry the team up to our next meet on Tuesday, December 27, at Homestead High School in Mequon.

In conclusion, one lasting quote was shared by Shri Kannan after his 100 freestyle race. He told me, "My legs are so sore coach." I just smiled back at him and was thinking the pain is temporary, but the memories of this will last forever. Keep up the hard work Shri, and also the rest of the team; you're all off to a stellar start!
