Swim Team

The BA swim team was an engine firing on all cylinders this past Saturday in Plymouth. This team has accomplished what no other BA swim team has done before.

The meet started with the 200 medley relay of Niall Parkins, Adrian Bellido, Rishi Guntur, and Andrew Li, who finished 2nd in 1:44.47, taking almost 3.5 seconds off of the school record. This swim was fast enough to qualify for the State Championships seeded 9th overall.

Next, Niall Parkins swam a personal best time of 1:56 in the 200 freestyle. Niall placed 5th in this event.

In the 50 freestyle, Adrian Bellido won the event in 20.97 seconds, just missing the record by a tenth of a second. This swim automatically qualified Adrian for the State Championships. Andrew Li followed with a 16th place finish, which scored for the team as well. Also noteworthy is a personal best time of 27.68 seconds for Aidan Canga. This was a tremendous swim for Aidan. Other swimmers competing were sophomore Shri Kannan, who notched a personal best, and Vasu Guda and Shariq Ahmad, who improved and impressed with their performances.

In the 100 butterfly, Adrian Bellido won that event as well in a time of 50.54 seconds. Again, qualifying Adrian for next week's State meet.

In the 100 free, personal bests were achieved by Aidan Canga and Shri Kannon and was another strong performance for Vasu Guda.

The highlight of the meet was the 200 free relay. The same BA relay team was seeded in 3rd place in the heat, but ended up winning the entire race in a new school record of 1:33.84, breaking the school record by 4.25 seconds. This team automatically qualified for the State Championships and really got the team fired up.

The 100 backstroke featured Niall Parkins, who swam a personal lifetime best of 58.27 seconds to place 2nd in the sectional, and individually qualify for the State meet. Congratulations Niall on an impressive feat, especially doing this as a freshman!

Next, Shri Kannon swam a personal best in the 100 breaststroke. It was a first time event for Shri, and he placed 15th, which scored individually for the team. Terrific job Shri.

The last event was the 400 free relay consisting of seniors Rishi Guntur and Andrew Li, along with Aidan Canga, and Shri Kannon. They beat their seed time placing 9th in the event, which scored 18 points for the team.

Next stop will be the State Championships at Waukesha South on Friday, February 17.

Please congratulate your BA State swimmers Adrian Bellido, Niall Parkins, Rishi Guntur, and Andrew Li on a fantastic meet!

Send them a message and wish them well as they represent BA and make program history as the first relay teams to compete in the State Championships.

UBLT Ski Team

Last Wednesday, the co-op ski team got together for its last regular season race at The Rock in Franklin. Both the girls and boys varsity teams were hoping to do well enough to earn a place at the State

Championships. The JV teams were also looking to earn a place at the JV conference meet.

The Giant Slalom race was against Whitefish Bay, Catholic Memorial, Nicolet, and University School of Milwaukee, all of whom were also in the running for State and JV conference qualifications.

It was a thrilling night as the boys varsity team placed 1st, with senior William Morgan taking 1st place individually. Junior Kamron Kaiser placed 18th.

The girls varsity team managed to hold off Nicolet and Catholic

Memorial to take a well-deserved 2nd place. Seniors Brynn Jeide and Cosette Holley placed 4th and 24th respectively, and freshman Marilee Nygro finished 8th.

Both varsity teams did enough to qualify for the State Championships; and with two wins this season, senior William Morgan was also named to the All-Conference 1st Team.

We wish all our BA athletes luck at the State meet this coming weekend in La Crosse where they will each race Slalom, Giant Slalom, and

Super G.

On the JV side, both the girls and boys teams placed 4th. On the boys team, senior Max Hong placed 17th, and sophomore Rohan Gandhi placed 20th. On the girls team, freshman Meghan Jeide placed 4th, and sophomore Johanna Zaleski finished 14th. At the time of print, we are still waiting for the JV standings to be updated and if our teams qualified for the JV conference meet.

Level 8 Girls

The Level 8 girls team picked up its fifth win of the season on Saturday. The girls traveled to St. Dominic for the second matchup against the girls from St. Dom's. BA won the first contest in dramatic fashion by scoring the go-ahead bucket with just seconds left on the clock.

Saturday's rematch was less dramatic, as BA played stifling defense. The girls also moved the ball well in their half-court offense and made shots. BA led this contest from start to finish and came away with the 31-17 victory.

The team has been invited to play in the 60th Annual Padre Serra Tournament March 7-26.

Level 7 Girls

The Level 7 girls team played twice at BA on Saturday, February 11. The girls gave 2nd place WCSS all they could handle in game one losing 24-21. The girls were led in scoring by Amen Abel.

In game two, the girls lost to 1st place St. John Vianney. The girls did a great job handling SJV's pressure and competed hard the whole game.

The team closes out the regular season this week with two games. The first is on Wednesday vs. St. Francis Borgia and then Saturday vs. St. Jude.

Level 8 Boys

Returning from the Winter Break bye week, BA had two games this past Saturday.

The first game was against St. Dominic, a team with an 8-2 league record heading into the game. The BA boys lost to St. Dominic three weeks ago by 17 points in a tournament championship game.

BA played much better in this game and won 35-31. The team jumped out to a 16-3 lead after the first quarter, including a 14-0 run after trailing 3-2. St. Dominic slowly battled back, but BA was able to hit clutch free throws down the stretch to win by four. It was a complete team effort.

An hour later, the team needed to reset to take on a good Waukesha Catholic team. After trailing 7-3 early, Ethan Potthast hit back-to-back three-pointers to give the Blue Knights a 9-7 lead. The team never looked back and went on to win 43-34. Nick Roth brought in 11 rebounds, while Eli Wintheiser came just short of having the teams first double-double of the season. He finished with nine points and nine rebounds. Sutton Demski was big in both games on the glass.

The boys improve to 13-7 on the season, 7-4 in league play. The team has been invited to play in the 60th Annual Padre Serra Tournament March 7-26.

Level 6 Boys

The Level 6 boys blue team picked up its 7th win of the season on Saturday. The boys traveled to Mother of Good Counsel (MGC) for an early morning contest against MGC.

The game was a back-and-forth affair for the first two quarters with neither team being able to pull away from the other.

However, the boys from BA used their full-court press to create some turnovers and generate fastbreak opportunities. As a result, BA pulled away in the second half and won the contest by a score of 31-18.
