Last Friday was the end of our season. The girls played strong, but unfortunately lost to Milwaukee School of Languages 76-58. Luci Jensen and Sydnie Dehne were the leading scorers, scoring 13 points each. Jacque Dieck had 11 points, Patricia Weiss had eight points, Madison York had six points, and Aureilia Rushing had two points. We look forward to next season!

Ski Team
On February 20 and 21, the boys varsity co-op ski team went to La Crosse to compete in the Wisconsin High School State Championships. The team was one of 22 teams and 157 skiers from across Wisconsin to compete. Each team and athlete competed in three races: Slalom, Giant Slalom, and Super G.

This year, four of the six athletes on the boys varsity team came from BA - seniors Jacob Zaiser and Quinn Kaiser, junior William Morgan, and sophomore Kamron Kaiser. Against some challenging competition, the boys did well to come in 16th overall, ahead of schools such as Kettle Moraine, Oconomowoc, and Cedarburg.

In the individual results, William Morgan placed the highest at 28th, despite falling in the slalom and coming 84th in that race. Jacob Zaiser and Quinn Kaiser placed 56th and 76th, and Kamron Kaiser finished 101st.

Unfortunately, the State championships brought the high school season to a close. I want to thank the 15 BA athletes who participated on the ski team this year, our coaches, and our STAR parent, Amy Marshall, for another successful season.

Level 6 Girls:

The Level 6 girls played the top two teams in their division on Saturday in St. John Vianney and St. Dominic. Though they lost both games, they battled with great intensity and continue to improve each week. Leading the girls in scoring were Maria Simic and Susie Schoyer.

Level 7 Boys Gold:

The Level 7 boys Gold team beat Seton North this weekend in its last home game of the season. The boys played an amazing game and came out on top with a 40-18 win. Keagan Michelich led the team in scoring with 12 points. Ethan Potthast added seven points, while Nicholas Roth had five. The team worked well together, fighting hard to stay ahead the entire game. Noah Thompson and Zaim Banday were nearly impenetrable on the front end of a zone defense that proved too strong for the opponent. Samarth Singh had excellent rebounding. Isaaq Qureshi, Samuel Miller, and Eli Wintheiser each made a couple of shots.

Level 8 Gold:

Congratulations to the Level 8 boys Gold team on receiving a top eight seed and first round bye for the year-end Padre Serra Tournament.  The team may have received a top eight seed, but suffered a tough loss this last weekend while battling for second place in the Don Bosco Notre Dame league to St. Sebastian 35-27. St. Sebastian received a top four seed for the Padre Serra Tournament. The defensive effort led by Luke Rogutich was stellar.  The Blue Knights held St. Sebastian to a season low in points, as Luke was tasked with defending one of the leading scorers in the region.

The team struggled offensively, only getting up 36 shots the entire game and going 1-8 from three-point land.  Andrew Schmidt got his first action of the year subbing in for an “injured” Luke Rogutich to take his two free throw attempts.  Raghav Vijayapal and Garrett Priebe led the scoring with 10 and eight points, respectively.

We close out our regular season this weekend with a game against fellow two-loss team Seton North on Saturday.

Level 8 Boys Blue:
The Blue team finished its season this past Saturday with a loss to Wauwatosa Catholic. All 10 boys contributed in the game and enjoyed a team party afterwards. The boys finished the season with a 11-8 record. I am proud of the boys for having a good season, giving great effort, and having lots of perseverance.

Last night, the team played in a parent vs. son game. After many tumbles from the parents and stamina on fumes, the kids made a comeback. Stellar point guard play from Mr. Grande and fierce rebounding by Mr. Libbey, Mr. Cha, and Dr. Alsayegh were the ultimate differences in the game. The boys missed a game-tying three pointer at the buzzer, and the parents held on for a 35-32 victory!

So much fun was had that another 10 minute quarter was played. This time, the kids were triumphant and won the quarter by four points.
