Softball

Julia Van Bogart threw a shutout to lead Brookfield Academy/ULS past Milwaukee King 15-0 on Wednesday.

On Friday, the team traveled to Shoreland Lutheran for a non-conference game. Unfortunately, they struggled to get their offense going. Although the game was tied after the first inning, Shoreland pulled ahead for good, scoring three runs in the third inning.

The team visited St. Francis to battle for the conference title Tuesday night. The Blue Knights fired up the offense in the first inning when Johanna Zaleski hit an inside-the-park homerun in the first at-bat of the game. Ella Thompson was bad news for the opposing pitcher, driving in six runs with three doubles in the high scoring game. Julia led the Blue Knights to victory in the circle. With a 16-4 win over second place St. Francis, the Blue Knights were able to leave the field as Midwest Classic Conference Champions!

The team will finish up its conference schedule this week playing Living Word/Heritage Christian at 4:30 pm on Thursday at BA for Senior Night. Come Support!

Boys Tennis

The boys varsity tennis team played two matches this past week. The first was against #5 ranked (Division 2) New Berlin Eisenhower. BA played great tennis and won 7-0. The highlight of the match was BA's #2 doubles team of Peyton Zeiler and Garv Bhasin winning 6-3, 6-0 at #1 doubles. It was also Senior Night for BA. I want to thank all 10 of the seniors, and their parents, for the efforts they have put in during their time in the tennis program!

On Tuesday, BA hosted Marquette, the #2 ranked team in Wisconsin. Having lost handily to Marquette the past two seasons, the boys came out determined to flip the script this year.

It was an incredible day for the BA boys, as they defeated the Hilltoppers 4-3. The four wins came from a sweep on the four singles matches. Adrian Yin won 6-3, 7-5 at #1 singles. Rohan Singh won 6-2, 6-2 at #2 singles. Michael Boucher won 6-1, 6-1 at #3 singles, and Krish Sharma won his match 6-3, 0-6, 10-5, winning in a third set tiebreaker.

This was a fantastic win for the team to beat Marquette, who has won 12 of the last 15 Division 1 team state titles, dating back to 2007.

BA remains #1 in Division 2 and will take part in the Kohler invite this weekend.

Girls Soccer

The girls soccer team had another full week with three games.

Monday, the Blue Knights hosted a conference game against Heritage Christian. BA was too much for the visitors and finished with a 10-0 victory. Brynn Jeide scored the first goal early in the game. Laurette Blanchard and Kate Bullio scored their first goals of the year. Claire Tracy added four goals, while Johanna Zaleski finished with three.

On Wednesday, the girls traveled to conference rival Lake Country Lutheran. In a hard-fought game, the match ended in a 2-2 draw. With a starter missing from the lineup, the team had to adjust some normal positions. Getting down an early goal, Claire Tracy found possession in the box and was tripped to earn a penalty kick, which she converted to tie the game at one at the break. In the second half, Claire, being double teamed for the majority of the game, managed to find just enough space at the top of the box to beat the keeper in the far corner to take the lead 2-1. LCL scored again midway through the second half to tie it up. Both teams clamped down defensively, and the game ended in a tie. Sydnie Dehne played another outstanding game in the nets, and the rest of the girls gave all they had in a real battle for the conference crown.

On Friday, the girls hosted a strong and battle tested Shorewood squad. Patricia Weiss joined fellow teammate Johanna Zaleski on the front line who put continual pressure on the Greyhounds back line. About 30 minutes into the game, the Blue Knights were awarded a free kick 35 yards out. Claire Tracy hit a line drive that beat the keeper and hit the crossbar. The ball came back outside the box which Claire got control of, beat a defender, and was taken down for a penalty kick which she converted into the right corner to give the girls a 1-0 lead at the break. BA's back line of Olivia Smith, Laurette Blanchard, Brynn and Meghan Jeide, and Shivi Shah played one of their best games as a defensive unit to keep Shorewood off the board the rest of the match for a 1-0 victory. Sydnie Dehne earned her fifth shutout of the season in front of an enthusiastic home crowd.

The Blue Knights pulled away for good with three runs in the fourth inning. In the fourth inning, Heritage Christian forced a fielder's choice; but one run scored, and an error scored two more runs for BA.

Track & Field

BA hosted its annual Blue Knight Invitational this past Saturday, May 6. Conditions, again, were not ideal, but our Levels 5-8 athletes did not let that deter them from a great meet. Seven total teams competed on the day with several Blue Knights placing in events. Results from this past weekend can be located by using this link.

BA will compete in its final meet this upcoming Saturday, May 13, at 9:30 am at Wisconsin Lutheran College.

Tennis

Last week, BA's Middle School tennis matches presented both opportunities and challenges. The Blue Knights Gold team finished with an impressive 5-3 win over Whitefish Bay last Thursday.

St. Dominic proved to be a tough opponent on Friday against our Blue team, finishing 6-2 over our Blue Knights. A big shout out to the entire team who exhibited fantastic teamwork and effort! We've lost a few practice sessions due to inclement weather, but the team is ready and looking forward to this week's matches.

Soccer

This past week, the MS girls played two games, hosting Heritage Christian (HC) on May 2 and University Lake School (ULS) on May 4. Against HC, Elisabeth Wilson gave the team a quick 1-0 lead at the 3:30 mark, making a heads-up, second chance strike against a bobbled ball from the opposing goalie. Luci Heckenkamp, assisted by Amina Khazi-Syed, found the net to open the scoring in the second half. Gretchen Peacock scored for the Blue Knights later in the game on a penalty kick, and Luci Heckenkamp finished the game playing a hard shot from the right edge to cap the game 4-0. The game was highlighted again by ball possession, field position, and stout defense as the girls recorded their fourth shutout victory of the season.

Rachel York dribbles the ball up the field

On May 4, the girls rolled to a 10-0 victory against ULS. Katherine Courtright found the net for her first score of the season. Lila Mason, playing as the right wing, recorded a big assist during the first half of the match, as did Gretchen Peacock. Several players made unassisted goals, beating defenders one-on-one and finding lanes to dribble and score through. Rachel York opened the game with a score. Elisabeth Wilson scored three times for the Blue Knights, as did Luci Heckenkamp. Laila Eriksen scored during the match with a nice strike in the second half. Gretchen Peacock scored off of an assist from Luci Heckenkamp. BA recorded its fifth shutout victory of the season. Thus, far, the team has outscored opponents 48-2. This week, BA hosts St. Augustine Prep on Tuesday, May 9.
