Varsity Tennis

Five members from the BA girls tennis team leave for the WIAA Division 2 Individual State Tennis Tournament on Thursday. Seniors Lexi Kass and Laurette Blanchard earned the #2 seed in the doubles tournament. They are one of four teams to receive a bye to the Round of 16. There, they will face the winner of the top doubles team from Sheboygan Falls and BA's #2 doubles team, Simran Bhatia and Riya Singh.

The top doubles team, Lexi and Laurette, were featured in the Waukesha Freeman earlier this week. You can read the full article here.

Sophomore Ashna Dagam received a special qualifier to participate in the singles tournament. Her first round opponent is against the #7 seed, Lillian Jorgenson from Prairie. Ashna has played Jorgenson three times already this season, and hopes the fourth time is the charm. Both players are playing their best tennis of the season, so I'm excited to see the two players compete one last time.

The matches occur during BA's Fall Break, so I strongly encourage you to come support the Blue Knights up in Madison at the Nielsen Tennis Stadium. Ashna begins her tournament on Thursday at 6:30 pm. Riya and Simran begin their tournament Thursday at 7:30 pm.

Lexi and Laurette will play Friday at 12:30 pm. The tournament finishes on Saturday with the semifinals at 9 am and the championship after. All matches are indoor, so no need to worry about the colder temperatures!

Cross Country

This past Thursday the boys and girls cross country teams competed at McCarty Park in the Wisconsin Lutheran Viking Invite. It started out drizzling and wet, but the sun came out and the racing conditions were ideal. It was another terrific day for our runners as most put up either season or career best times!

Starting the day off were the JV boys. It was an extremely large race, and the course narrowed quickly making for a slow start. The boys persevered and bounced back to finish very well. Leading the way was Jack Rogutich, who was followed closely by Ben Reiner. Both boys ran a good race and were close to season personal records (PRs). The next finishers were Aaron Tatek and Joshua Schwartz, who both ran their best race of the season and were each seconds away from their all time best. Rounding up the JV was Santino Raab Rabida, Erich Boelter, and Rithik Guntur, who all continue to improve each week and take off huge chunks of time from their previous race.

The varsity girls took the course next and had a phenomenal day! Leading the way was Rose Erlinder who finished in ninth place and finished under 20 minutes for the first time. Rose is very close to breaking the school record. Also medaling was junior Claire Tracy with a breakout race and finished under 21 minutes for the first time in her career, finishing in 22nd place! Just behind her with another solid showing was captain Luci Jensen. She has been incredibly consistent and is set up to do some great things come championship season. Following Luci was sophomore Leora Schmidt, who also had a great race and a big PR, running under 22 minutes for the first time all season!

The team's fifth finisher was Avery Denman, who despite dealing with some shin splints, ran a two and a half minute PR! Rounding out the varsity girls were Izabella Gomez who is really shaping up at the right time, and Jillian Jones and Chloe Green, who both also took off two minutes from their personal best times.

Finishing up the night were the varsity boys. Leading the way was junior Kamron Kaiser, followed closely by Matthew Casas! Both young men continue to show great teamwork and drive. They ran 17:02 and 17:14 respectively, and finished in 17th and 25th place, both earning medals! In third was captain Danny Reiner, running a lifetime best 18:37! He was followed by Davis Arvold, also running a personal best of 19:06! Both of these juniors are in a great position to continue improving and be a major contributor in the upcoming weeks in the championships meets. Our fifth runner of the day was Danny Weiner, who broke the 20-minute barrier with a nice 38 second PR. Rounding out the varsity team was senior captain Will Morgan, who also broke the 20-minute barrier for the first time this season and is very close to his all time best. Rookie Shri Kannan, who has worked extremely hard to make it into the varsity lineup, delivered with a great time of 20:14!

Up next, the cross country teams will compete in the Midwest Classic Conference Championship this Saturday. Both teams are set up well to contend for a championship. Wish them luck this week and come cheer them on this weekend!

Varsity

Varsity volleyball wrapped up conference play with two matches versus top ranked teams.

The team lost to Kenosha Christian Life 25-17, 25-18, and 25-21. Against a very good Lake Country Lutheran team, the Blue Knights lost all three games, but showed improvement as the match went on.

BA is seeded fifth in the conference tournament, which takes place at Lake Country Lutheran this Friday night.

The team enters the tournament with a 3-4 overall conference record and a 10-8 record overall.

The varsity team has worked hard on the court executing a stronger offense, hitting more shots, and shoring up their serve receive. It has been fun to coach this group of young ladies.

BA is seeded 11th in its Sectional and will face Racine Lutheran on Tuesday, October 18, at 7 pm in Racine.

However, during the match, the Blue Knights had four digs and four kills from Ella Lombardi, and six assists from freshman Kai Peterson. Aureilia Rushing served up four aces during the game.

Later in the week, the girls traveled to Lake Country Lutheran. The match was intense with three close games. Although the girls fought hard, LCL came out on top. Harbani Kaur had five serving aces. Shivani Shah had four digs, while Bella Ruddock had six assists and Ella Lombardi six kills.

JV2

BA's JV2 volleyball team traveled to Lake Country Lutheran last week. The Blue Knights had a strong performance in the first game winning 25-14. Freshman Kai Peterson had six ace serves. She also had 11 setting assists, leading to seven kills from Katie Loomis. Great passing by Shivani Shah kept the score tight, with the Blue Knights narrowly losing the second game 25-23. In the deciding game, BA came up clutch, winning 19-17. All the girls played excellent against tough competition in the heartbreaking loss.

MS Volleyball

Level 7

What a busy week for the Level 7 volleyball team! Tuesday they played a tough match at Heritage Christian. The team didn’t come away with the win, but it was a great team effort.

Wednesday and Thursday the team played in the St. Leonard tournament. There were some really close games, and the team got a match win against St. Alphonsus. Net play by Mali Williams and Clementine Laur helped score some big points.

On Saturday, the team won all three games from Christ King with good serving from Grace Mila helping the cause. This team continues to show major improvement each week.

Level 8

The Level 8 volleyball team came away with a split on Saturday, beating St. Sebastian, but losing to St. Mary Visitation. With a smaller squad this week, every player made significant contributions. Aroushi Bhakhri continues to make a difference at the net, and great passing from Evelyn Martinez-Diaz really helped the team. A fun bowling outing took place after at Bluemound Bowl.

MS Cross Country

JR Knights

Level 7/8

On Saturday, the Brookfield Academy JR Knights faced Messwood. The Knights planned to make a statement and keep Messwood off the scoreboard, which they were successful at in the first quarter of the game. Despite a great effort from the defense, Messwood was able to score early in the second quarter to bring the Messwood lead to 6-0.

Samarth Singh led the team in tackles. Both Nicholas Roth and Noah Thompson had tackles for a loss, but it was not enough to overcome Messwood. The Knights fell 12-0. The boys play under the lights at home against LCL this Thursday night, October 13.

Level 5/6

The JR Knights accomplished another amazing shut-out win, defeating St. Thomas More 26-0! The Knights offense was electrifying, and the defense totally ruled the field! Once again, Zaiden Johnson and Charlie York helped put points on the board, scoring two touchdowns each. The defense picked up where it left off last week, continuing its dominance of getting to the quarterback and stopping the opposing offense. It was a total team effort of great blocking, tackling, and sportsmanship! Go Knights!
